I purchases a book written in German all about Otterberg and families that have lived there. Otterberg is very interested in their history and several books are published. I only bought the books with my family named mentioned. With that said I can tell you about the above 2 names listed from your list... Title of book: Otterberg Band 2 Gerhard Kaller From the listing called " Otterberger Bevolkerung" under the heading of "Schatzung 1665" I find the name of Reylandt, Johannes. Also under the listing of "Schatzung 1658" Rouland Hans du Ru (Roo), Jacob I would have to have some help with the German but I know that these are listings from certain sources of people living in Otterberg during the said time period. Then another book that I purchases called, 300 years of immigration from Otterberg, which is also written in German, called 300 Jahre Auswanderung aus Otterberg Reiland, Franz * 31.7.1839 He married Catharina Schuhmann They both died in the USA. I am not sure this is one of your names but it is the only listing in this book near your Rei----- names. I hope this is of some help for you. Margaret
Dear List Members, The opportunity to post the following query is greatly appreciated. Recently I have noticed an unusually tight cluster of ROLAND-like names during the 1650-1750 time period in the southern Rheinpfalz near Kaiserlautern. For more than thirty years Roland genealogists have been searching for the origins of the Johannes Roland Family which arrived in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania about 1726-27. For a long time they were thought to have been Swiss Mennonites who moved north through the Palatinate before emigrating. It now appears that they may not have been Swiss after all, but Germans from west of the Rhine. The Anabaptist status of our particular group still seems highly possible as they were both Brethren and Mennonite in Pennsylvania. But if the larger family originally came from this region, there may have been Rolands practicing several variations of faith and belonging to many different churches. Might anyone with knowledge of the following names or places be able to provide further information that helps us determine if any of these names connect to our lines? Does anyone happen to know of other Roland-like name variations from the area? Many thanks for your consideration. Hello, I am trying to find information about my great grandfather who died in 1920 in Hamburg. I want to find out how he died, how many children he had and whether he was married at the time of death. I have his death record from Hamburg but it does not have any of these details. Any thoughts about where else I could check. Any newspapers with obituaries any one could recommend?
My elusive ancestor is Matthias MORICK who shows up in Fürfeld in about 1705 with his wife Maria Elisabeth ____. Since the 1st of his many children was born in abt 1704 Matthias was probably born about 1680. But where? I haven't found any information on where this family originated, but through the succeeding generations they slowly moved south and then into Alsace. The name changed to MORCK along the way. The godfather of one of the children of Matthias was Wernher Morick, so he could be a brother of Matthais, and since he was a godfather, I am thinking that he probably didn't live too far away. The oldest son of Matthias, Johannes Morck became a vicillus (property manager) of a farm at nearby Bidendeller Hof (Biedenthal). If any one runs into a MORICK or MORCK record, please let me know. Several of you have responded to my not-so-good-natured grumbling about the new Western Europe Vital Record CDs from the LDS Church with offers to purchase them. Thank you for being willing to take them off my hands, however, I have decided to donate them to my local FHC. It turns out after several days of looking into them that much of the material is new. In two ways both not yet on the IGI and more recent. Thus, if you need information about your great grandparents and are fortunate enough to be from one of the villages included, you might strike paydirt. This, of course, raises the disappointing prospect that new data abstracted from the records will not be added to the IGI but, instead, be sold on CDs. The difficulty with this is that one will not have a complete database to search. Rob Hausman ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Robert E. I assumed the records would NOT be those already listed in the IGI but that turned out to be wrong. However, I do like the fact that you can search all the records from a particular town/village and also that a Film number is given as a reference. I have done a preliminary search for some of my folks and found a few families in neighboring villages that I was not aware of. I also located marriage records for two of them. Admittedly I was disappointed that there weren't more records for my area (near Kusel/Kaiserslautern) but I was happily surprised to find the matches that I did. I can understand your disappointment and that of others but as far as I'm concerned the $27 was worth it. Consider that it may be helpful to some people.
I understood the set of CD's were the same info found on www.familysearch.org. However, one could use them in a different manner: eg: useful for searching info by town location, but mainly speedier than internet or to avoid trip to FHC... 21 cd's $27 a bargain...Sorry you are so disappointed....I am awaiting mine but don't expect too much---especially now. Does anyone know of a town, city, or area, known as Ellsworth, in Lorain. My uncle, Joseph Deichler, was born in Ellsworth, Lorain, Germany, according to his U.S. World War Draft Card. Would like info on Ellsworth. Joseph Deichler's father was Josef Deichler, and his mother was Margaret Spingler. I would also like to get info on the Deichler and Spingler families. Thanks in advance - Jim Pearce
Hi All, I am LDS, I have Worked there, and Know the System.. I AM NO PRO.. but this is something I DO KNOW about... LDS has SO many records.. The woman had a Question regarding FILM availablitiy on IGI and other LDS refferences.. The REASON there are Films is that People have been able to Get some ORIGINAL Records onto FILM..... MANYYYY of the records provided through the FHC, are from People like you and I who Go to the FHC and INPUT the Information to the System.... THOSE records are FULL of Errors because many people just THINK they know what is right,do not use documentation, only the information they put together... Use the INFORMATION as a SOURCE to lead you to REAL information and documentation... Never Assume any CD with thousands of people on them, or Web pages Full of Giant Families.. Are ACCURATE. they may be, some of us go to great detail and expense to Verify the information we post, but even I get Corrections on Families I have on the web... No One is Perfect, as well as the information they submit... If someone has Something that REALLY looks like it's Valid.. Simply Write to the source and Question what they did to get documantation.. Internet is nice, but Written letters Still have alot more hlep.. LDS records ALL have the same thing.. LOOK at the Source, see how many people have submitted the SAME information.. it could all have come from ONE wrong source.. you can Write to LDS Submitters also.. And the NEW format on LDS site is not received very well, so expect further Change.. If and When you go to a FHC.. Write out a Specific Plan of research.. Who you need info on and what information you need from it.. Go there with a Limited Goal.. Because they are often Staffed with volunteers, and sometimes they DO NOT know too much about the place they are doing thier CALLING for at church.. the More information you have... the easier it is for you to help yourself, when you run into a volunteer who isn't helpful... ALSO.... PLEASE look at the FICHE in the FHC's.. You can find ALOT of information in those that will lead you to FILM ROLLS that have ACTUALL REAL RECORDS.. and not just Person submitted.. Several months ago, I was part of a series of queries about what might be on the newly advertised CD collection of Western European Vital Records from the FHC. No one really knew and the description when it did come out was not particularly useful. Ever hopeful, I ordered them and, aafter a few hours of playing with them, would really like to send them back. I am hoping someone can tell me I am wrong. However, here is my first impression. 1. One concern of mine and also of others was whether there would be records that were not already on the IGS. We all hoped that to be the case. It does not look that was to me as every collection of records has a Film number next to it. 2. It is only a very limited selection of Films. For example, for Kirchheimbolanden in the Pfalz there is only one or perhaps a few of the many Catholic, Lutheran and Reformed films that were put on the CD. 3. It's hard to draw any conclusions for Hesse-Nassau as there are records for only four villages and only one of them is for before the 19th century. Of course, this simply parallels the scarcity of IGI records for Hesse when compared to the Pfalz or Rhineland. 4. As you might expect from the collection title, "Vital Records," it is heavily weighed to the 19th century. From my perspective, this severely limits its usefulness. 5. I tried to search for about 40 of the individuals on my 1000 individual genealogy and found NONE of them. Has anyone else looked into the collection? As I doubt I can get my money back, I'd like to be convinced that the CDs might be useful. Rob Hausman ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Robert E.
