    3. I am lucky to have an LDS research center near my home. But, I have found, there are only so many hours that they are open and that I have even less time during those hours to spend in their facility. I will then ask for any and all help I can find using this posting. I am convinced that a direct ancestor of mine, one Andreas Schropp born about 1660, migrated to Oberowisheim in Baden, Germany. Evangelical Lutheran listings confirm my research to Andreas but no brothers/sisters/parents are found. I would then ask that anybody with Church Books from any towns covered by this posting check for the Schropp name and see if any children listed were born about 1660. I am just getting started so if anyone could point me towards other German listings of this type I would greatly appreciate it. Also, are there any articles/books that address migration through the years within Germany? Thank you for taking the time to read this and Happy Holidays to all. aplsr@hotmail.com Anthony P. 2. I am still trying to get information about Jacob Tresch from Grethen, Bayern, Pfalz. A previous lister gave me information about his parents but I still can't find out if and when he married Veronica Feurstein either in Germany or whether it was here in the US. If anyone has any information about a Fleurstein family I would be very grateful to hear. Bernice

    1. [PFALZ] Rosport Luxenbourg
    2. Does anyone know if there is a list for Rosport?  It is just across the river from Ralingen, Rheinland-Pfalz.  My GOTTLIEB ancestors came from Rosport and my THIELEN ancestors came from Ralingen. Also, in a church record what does Sv. and Tv. mean?  My ancestor's record reads: Gottlieb, Joes, *in Rosport, Sv. Charles u. Margaretha Carel and his wife's reads: Thielen, Margaretha, *ca 1727 in Ralingen, Tv. Gilges u. Anna-Maria. I will soon have the family book of St. Martin's in Ralingen which also covers Godendorf, Ralingerberg, Ralingermuhle and Merteshof from 1713 to 1900.  Should arrive in about 7 - 10 days.  If any of you have ancestors from there will be happy to do lookups. 3. With respect to ongoing messages about German cookies, for us Midwesterners who are dealing with 18" of Mother Nature's finest, the long commutes into work etc. and Christmas shopping, might I suggest Lambertz cookies. They are made in Aachen, not as sweet as American cookies but distinctively European/German, by a baking company that's been around for ages. You might have to look around for them but I have seen them at Meijers stores and at Sam's Club. And to Nancy, thank you for sharing these with us. I hope you are feeling better and wish you Blessed and Merry Christmas. Joe

    3. Hello to all Pfalz-listers, An earlier query to the Trier list brought many suggestions for LOCH families but none for the necessary HORT connection. I want to find the birthplace for my maternal grandfather NICHOLAS HORT, b.1847, to PETER HORT and JOANNA LOCH. Nicholas emigrated to Iowa in the United States in the early 1870s. Other than 'Prussia' the only clue I have is 'German-French' in one record. The IGI has Horts in both Elsass and the Pfalz regions. I'm open to all suggestions... Robert C. 1. [PFALZ] recipe #5
    2. Nancy Caronis
    3. This recipe is no longer made by anyone in our family. It is NOT very good! We long ago substituted another lebkuchen recipe for this one. But I promised the originals, so here it is: LEBKUCHEN - original recipe from Germany Recipe By : Susan Elizabeth Hodem, Elizabeth Emrich Schertzer, etc. Categories : Christmas Baking Amount Measure Ingredient -- Preparation Method -------- ------------ -------------------------------- 1 cup molasses -- heat together with 1/2 cup milk 2 cups sugar 4 whole eggs 1 lb. unskinned almonds -- grind fine with: 1/4 lb. citron -- set aside 1 Tablespoon buttermilk 2 teaspoons baking soda 4 cups flour or less 2 teaspoons ginger 1 teaspoon allspice 1 teaspoon cloves 1 teaspoon salt Beat sugar and eggs together for about 5 minutes. When molasses and sweet milk are warm, put buttermilk over the baking soda, stir and add to warmed molasses. Then add it to sugar/eggs SLOWLY. Now gradually add citron and nuts that have been finely ground. Remove from mixer and add flour, salt and spices to make a fairly stiff dough. Set in a cool place to ferment overnight or about 12 hours. Next day, spread 1/2 of the cookie dough thinly into a non-stick jelly roll type pan (cookie sheet with four 3/4" to 1" sides). (This recipe is probably enough to make 2 full sheets!) Bake at 350°F, for about 10-20 minutes. Top will puff up, sink back down and brown. Ice immediately with 10X sugar mixed with milk, lemon juice or water. You may add vanilla to icing if you use milk or water. Thinly ice entire top. Cut into squares. This will keep for a LONG time. That's why it is called Lebkuchen! Freezes well. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - NOTES : This recipe is NOT very good. My family - about 4 generations ago - gave up this lebkuchen and slipped in a ringer! If you do decide to try it, may I suggest 1/2 batch - so you will waste less ingredients! If anyone wants it, I will send the "ringer" recipe for lebkuchen. It is quite similar, but uses honey rather than molasses, and uses no milk.
