    3. Judische Grabstatten im Kreis Bad Kreuznach Geschichte und Gestaltung c. 1995 I have just received this book from a friend in Germany. I became interested in and heard about this book after visiting a Jewish cemetery in Altenbamberg, south of Bad Kreuznach, in the Rheinpfalz. (Read my story about this visit, plus what I learned about doing genealogy research in the Pfalz at: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~jillaine/pfalz ) This 562-page book, all in German, documents the history of Jews in particular Pfalz towns, and in most cases, documents the names and birth/death dates of Jews buried in these cemeteries. It also writes about the history and state of the cemeteries in these towns (see below for a list). I do not speak German, but I could do lookups IF YOU KNOW THE NAME of the TOWN and if the town is in the book. There is no surname index in this book, unfortunately. I hope that people will feel free to pass this message on to other lists that may be interested in the contents of this book. I am not Jewish and not familiar with the Jewish genealogy sites and lists. TOWN NAMES COVERED IN THE BOOK: Altenbamberg Argenschwang Bad Kreuznach Barweiler Becherbach b. Kirn Bretzenheim Dorrebach Frei-Laubersheim Furfeld Guldental hennweiler Hochstatten Huffelsheim Hundesbach Kirn Langenlonsheim Mandel Meeddersheim Meisenheim Merxheim Planig Rummelsheim Schoneberg Schweppenhausen Seesbach Seibersbach Simmertal Sobernheim Staudernheim Tiefenthal Waldlaubersheim Wallhausen Weiler b. 1. [PFALZ] WALTER and Palatinate
    2. Robert Walter
    3. Happy New Year to all fellow listers My New Year`s resolution is to learn the origin of my immigrant ancestor Nicola/Nicolaus Walter who came to America on Sept. 9, 1751 on the ship Patience. A deceased relative had obtained a photo-copy of the ships passenger list from a book titled "Pennsylvania German Pioneers" pages 533 and 534. The document indicates that there were 8 Roman Catholics among the passengers, 3 or 4 being my ancestor and his family. A copy of this list that I obtained from The Olive Tree Genealogy site indicates that these passengers were Palatines. Since I am fairly new at this I have a few questions that I hope some of you listers can answer for me. Are there any additional records available that would relate to these passengers arriving in Philadelphia that might more specifically indicate where they came from? What is the significance of the notation about 8 Roman Catholics on board? If these passengers were Palatines, from what area of present day Germany would they have come from? Thanks in advance for any help anyone can give me. Robert Walter

    2. Joseph Jennings
    3. I've been watching the list for some time and thought I would send my request. I am researching my ggggrandparents Heinrich (Henry) HANS and Catherine SCHEY. They immigrated to Albany, NY around 1850 from Marienthal near Rockenhausen. This area was then part of Bavaria. Heinrich's parents were Johanns Jacob HANS and Katherine Elizabetha KLEIN. If any of these names tie into your research, please let me know. Thank you, Joe Jennings

    3. I too went back to PAF4, but sadly found the files I'd used in PAF5 were now corrupted and could no longer be used by Version 4, but happily I'd not used it for long and so had not used all of the 3 copies I make after editing new info. With importing these unused files by PAF5 I was able to use PAF4 again...Thank God. I'd thought I'd LOST everything. I'm glad I keep many backup files and copies ever since some earlier problems. Make copies, copies, copies, backup often ! I have all my files now on CD for safekeeping...Thank God Marty Graybill I too will stick with PAF4! 2. Ernst Dierich
    3. Hello, Yesterday I downloaded, installed and run the brand new PAF 5 program. The new surface is quite attractive and the possibilbility of defining own data-entry templates has been attended for a long time. Now I ruefully came back to PAF 4. The new feature of single line names with a slash before and after the surname produces a major bug with names ending with 'ß' like 'Wambsganß'. The program converts the ending 'ß' into 'ss' but adds additional signs (ASCII NUL and others). The combination 'ß/' seem to create not forseeable escape-sequences. One could ask now: Why don't you just change the endings of your names from 'ß' into 'ss' ? This is a good question but you can also ask: Why should I use a program which is not able to cope with names existing for centuries ? And there are programs which can cope with such names like PAF 4. Regards Ernst Dierich.

    2. Gary Zapp
    3. I am Hunting for information on my great-great grandfather Heinrich Zapp he was married to Marie Elizabeth Kolter. My grandfather and great granfather (my namesakes) both named Peter were born in Morbach, Pfalz. Heinrich and Elizabeth had 10 children: Heinrich II, Christoph (Christian), Elizabeth, Johannes married to Dorothea Woll then to USA), Carl, Peter Married to Elisabetha Kissel (died 1899 in Morbach), Daniel, Christina (Married to Henrich II Schick then to USA), Barbara, and Adam. One of the brothers other than John and Christina came to the USA settling in Boston. Like to discover which one it was. I am hunting for birth, marriage and death dates for Heinrich, and information one his ancestors (Father supposedly named Christoph), and and descendents which remained in Germany. Would appreciate info on Frenger,Kissel,Hebel, Alspach and Godtel families. Elizbeth Godtel of Niederkirchen married Peter II Zapp (My grandfather) then to USA. Elizabeth's Parents Adam Godtel and Margaretha Hebel. I am also hunting for histories on the villages they came from, Morbach, Niederkirchen, Woersbach, Heimkirchen, Jettenbach, Erfenbach, Iggelheim, Kreimbach, Kaulbach, Hirschorn, Heligenmoschel, Thaleischweiler, Dielkirchen, Hollborn, and Holbornerhof. I found one for Wolfstein which I am currently attempting to interpret and index the names. Any information on finding any of the above would be greatly appreciated. I am trying to research heinrich on LDS films, but our local center is hardly ever open. Gary P. Zapp

It is on Autobahn 62 about 15km NW of Landstuhl. I would also reckon that your ancestors were Lutheran, but there is no guarantee, as there were Catholic enclaves in the Pfalz as well. 3. Since I will be busy for the next week with vacation/holidays I would like to make one last posting for the year (hopefully I can sneak a peak at some responses without my spouse noticing). During this busy time of the year if anyone possessing Church Books could check for Evan. listings of the Schropp name I would greatly appreciate it. I am especially interested in listings for the Neckarkries and Weinsberg areas of Wuerttemberg. I am trying to find the parents of Andreas Schropp who was born about 1660. Rooting through 800 entries of Schropps from the LDS archives has given me about 25 viable leads in this area. Thanks to everyone helping with this research to date. 3. Hi To All, Have been lurking & trying to learn, slow learner here. I have found after 30 + years of searching the name of the town in Germany where my G-g-grandfather came from. Heinrich APPEL was born March 16, 1811 in Krotzenburg Germany. His children were born in Altenglan Germany. The questions I have are: 1. Should I be looking for information in Bayern or in Pflaz? I am confused, I know the boundaries have changed but how do I start. 2. The family when they came to Chicago IL came about 1861 & were Lutheran's. Some people are trying to tell me that they were Catholics in the old country. I don't understand this fact. They have told me all German's of that time frame were Catholics Any & all help would be appreciated. I would love to connect with a living family member in Germany but I know that is a VERY long shot at this time. Have others found living relatives in Germany? TIA IdaKay Appel

    3. Bernice: Many of my ancestors came from Grethen, Hausen, and Bad Dürkheim. This particular area had excellent civil records beginning about 1800, and if the marriage occurred during this time, a civil record might very well exist. These records have been microfilmed, and can be borrowed from the LDS Family History Center. Excellent records also exist for the evangelical church in the area, going back to the mid 1600s. These can be accessed as well from the FHC.
