    1. Kaiserlautern, Germany
    2. In April my daughter and I will be traveling in Germany. We plan to spend time in Kaiserlautern as that is the area (Winterbach and Pirmasens) where my BECKER and BLINN families are from. I understand the Institute for Palatine History and Folklife Studies is located in Kaiserlautern. Has anyone done research there, and if so, is it possible to research there if you can't speak German? While in Kaiserlautern or the surrounding area, we would like to stay at a guesthouse or pension rather than a hotel. Can anyone make a recommendation? I've tried on the internet but only find hotels listed. From this area we plan to drive north along the west side of the Rhine to Cologne. Any suggestions of a nice place to stay or recommendations anyone might have regarding sights to see along this site would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your help. 1. Genealogy Lambert, Daude, Brandstetter, Schuler
    2. Jessie and Edna Miller
    3. Hi I am searching for my ancestor roots and would like to see if we still have family in Germany. Johann Heinrich Lambert was born 1 Feb 1736 in Otterberg, Rhineland-Palatinate, Pfalz, Germany and was a Cartwright by trade. His father was Johann Nicholas Gergerd Lambert born 1705 and his mother was Maria Schuler 1702-1762. Johann Heinrich Lambert married Elizabetha Margaetha Daude, 6 Dec 1760 in Thaleischweiler, Germany, daughter of Johann Heinrich Daude/Daute (1715- ) and Anna Elizabetha Brandstetter (1718- ). Research conducted in Germany by Lambert descendents determined that the father of Johann Nicholas Gergard Lambert (1705-1752) of Otterberg, Pfalz, Germany was Johann Lambert, mother unknown. The parents of Maria Schuler (1702/1712- ) was Casimir Schuler and Maria Susanne Minton. Johann Heinrich and his family sailed on the Ship Chance to America and arrived 9 Sept. 1765 and traveled to New Amsterdam (New York) where they stayed for approximately 15 years. Also aboard the ship were Magdalena Daude's parents, Johann Heinrich Daude and Anna Elizabetha Brandstetter Daude, Christopher Kettering, Michael Kettering, and Johan Jacob Kettering. Many of the descendants of the Ketterings use the spelling Catron. The Lamberts and Ketterings would eventually settle in Wythe County, Virginia. Any information on the above listed families will be greatly appreciated. Sincerely, Edna M. Lambert Miller jessieandedna@home.com

    3. Hi Joe, My great grandfather's given name was Balthasar and this I only found on his baptismal record in the Pfalz. In all his other records (in the USA) he was named as Baltz, Baltzer, Balzer, Balcer, Bolzer. Old family members remember him as Bolzer and did not realize that his name was actually Balthasar. Janice Danks Joseph Schmitt wrote: > > Hi everyone, I may have an ancestor with this name. 1. My emigrant Ancestors
    2. Nancy M. Atkinson
    3. This is a list of my emigrant ancestors from Bosenbach and Eßweiler to Boston, MA and Dubuque, IA. I am interested in finding other descendants of these families. (Georg) Peter DICK and Maria (Katharina) MAURER married 12 December 1833 Bosenbach, Pfalz, Bayern, Germany. Peter DICK was born 01 Sept.1806 in Bosenbach and died 11 March 1877 Bosenbach. Maria MAURER was born 09 March 1809 in Bosenbach and died 14 February 1880 also in Bosenbach. Two of their seven children immigrated to the United States. 1 - Jacob DICK Born 06 Nov. 1834 Bosenbach Married Margaretha Rueter 11 Nov. 1875 Dubuque, IA Died 01 January 1901 Dubuque, IA Immigrated about 1854 to New York, NY Jacob came to the US before his brother Daniel. He lived in New York, Cincinnati, OH then settled in Dubuque, IA where he died. He half owned a tavern with his nephew Jakob "Walter" DICK (known as Walter). Jacob "Walter" DICK moved to Dubuque and took over Uncle JWD's business, as uncle had no children. (Jakob's obituary (1901) said he had 2 sisters living in Germany, presumably Katherina and Philippina, as well as a brother in Boston. ) 2 - Daniel DICK Born 15 Dec. 1843 Bosenbach Married Philippina JUNG 10 February 1869 Eßweiler Died 18 March 1918 Boston, MA Immigrated to New York, NY March 1886 (according to his naturalization papers) Philippina JUNG was born 23 Feb 1843 Eßweiler Died 13 December 1902 Boston, MA. (All six of their children were born in Eßweiler and immigrated to the States. Son Jacob "Walter" was the only one of the kids to move outside the Boston area. Children: Karolina b. 28 August 1870, Jacob Walter b. 01 March 1872, Ida b. 16 January 1876, Wilhelmina b. 17 November 1878, Amelia b. 03 October 1884 and Clara b. 07 September 1887) Daniel was a good musician - he played the Coronet in Germany and belonged to a concert band. He was invited to play in the U. S. and came (without his family). He played in several towns and was a success. He went back to Germany and was again invited to the U. S. He wanted to move to U. S. but his wife didn't. He told her he was going with or without her so she decided to come after all. They had a farm in Germany and proceeded to sell their cattle, etc. They came to Roxbury, MA. Daniel worked as a gardener later in life when he lived with his daughter Ida. 3 - Philipp JUNG (brother of Philippina JUNG noted above) Born 19 May 1848 Eßweiler Married Helena Eldrucher Abt. 1873 Died 1902 Boston, MA Philipp immigrated sometime before 1882 and settled in Boston, MA. Philipp is listed as a piano tuner or organ tuner on the 1900 census and on his children's birth records. 4 - Karl SCHMITT Born 10 Sept. 1868 Bosenbach Married Ida DICK 27 June 1894 Boston, MA Died 31 January 1917 Boston, MA Karl Immigrated to New York in 1892 and settled in Boston, MA. Ida, (daughter of Daniel DICK above) was born 16 Jan. 1876 Eßweiler and died 05 March 1951 Dedham, MA Karl was the illegitimate son of Elisabetha SCHMITT. She was born 21 March 1846 in Bosenbach and died October 1870 in Bosenbach. Karl was also a musician like Daniel and most likely met his wife through his music in Bosenbach. He was a violin player and a chauffeur for the Kuch family in Roslindale, MA. Kind Regards, Nancy Atkinson Manchester, NH Great-granddaughter of Ida (DICK) SCHMITT

    1. [PFALZ] Help in Translation....
    2. Sarah J. Adams
    3. Hello fellow listers, I am having difficulty in translating part of the two records that I have come across in the Geinsheim and Venningen church records. My difficulty in seems to be in understanding the beginning of the marriage record of Johannes Adam and Anna Clara Pflug. My second problem seems to be with part of Catharina (Siring) Adam's death record. I am curious to find out what the word is below her name. The following is the address where the records are located: http://www.geocities.com/ceoltoiri/records.html Any insights would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. Sarah Adams

    1. [PFALZ] Looking for Monica Munch
    2. Gerard Vandeberg
    3. I have been trying to reconnect to my cousin Monika Munch in Germany. She would be about 50. Her grandparents were Emilie Settelmeyer and Josef Zimmermann. Monika married an Erber. I would guess she might be living in the Mannheim/Ludwigshafen area, but I don't know. I have tried contacting as many of the Monika Munch and Monika Erber names in the German white pages, but I have had no luck. So if anyone out there knows this Monika, please contact me right away. The NYC Catholic Churches for the most part have closed or merged and have present day immigrants manning the requests for info.. Each requires a donation and then comes back not found...who wants to crawl around these dusty tomes in the basement..<g>. So, though I know they are out there somewhere...I keep trying. I found my Irish ancestors birthplace thru a sort of accidental nasty notation on an English 1871/81 census.... The central place would just be a repository. Have you sent for her naturalization papers. Or if she was a child upon emigrating perhaps you should check for her father's papers. Have you thoroughly checked the church records in this country? Or the federal census. Or perhaps someone or another family that traveled with them. It took me 20 years to find my ancestral village in Germany. Have you put a query on the list? Good hunting, Kay -- Genealogy without documentation is mythology! --WebTV-Mail-24197-370--

    1. [PFALZ] Kaiserslautern
    2. Your posting mentioned Kaiserslautern. This is the only town I have been able to pull out of 2 very old gentlemen who may be my 3rd or 4th cousin... I phoned them and all they knew was that when they were kids their mother would go back to Germany to visit. Their mother ,born 1872, lived to almost 100 yrs. So even if I did not find the exact town she was born in, assuming they were right....is there any central place where Catholic records for this area might be stored....The names I am search for are sooo common-----Lutz, Muller, And Bosch... Hopefully, Florence Lutz

    1. [PFALZ] Count Palatinate 1650
    2. Kathleen Schilling
    3. I have a reference from a 1650 Strassburg Neue Kirche baptismal record. It lists one of the baptismal sponsors as "Comes Palatinus Cesar: Med. D. & Pf." I am assuming that the sponsor was a pastor and medical doctor to the count, but I want to get the local church records to conform and obtain additional information. Does anyone know how I can find the "residence" of the Count Palatinate for 1650? I've checked various websites and my own library - and I'm still not certain of the location. Any help would be appreciated. 2. Art & Kay Harple Staub
    3. Hi Dixie, I don't purpose to be an expert on research in Germany. What the book is telling you is that the ship, loaded with people from the Palatinate (an area in Germany) and Zweibruchen (a city in the Palaniate),left from Rotterdam (a portin Holland) and stopped at Deal(a port in England) before sailing to America. It really doesn't tell you what village your ancestor was from. Yes, I believe you are on the correct list.
