Hi All happy New Year, this is my research over a good number of years it is not complete, as you can see there are gaps, any help appreciated, thanks anyway to family search and the new to me BC Museum on line I started with conflicting information, his enlistment papers said he was not married , my late Mother said he was married and had children, actually they were both right! anyway here it is James Middleton Petrie b 29 Sept 1880 was the youngest child of Charles Petrie and Isabella Farquharson. He married Isabella Tough born 1879 Keig, Aberdeenshire on the 16 February 1901 at Pond Cottage, Keig, Aberdeenshire. They had two Children Isobel (Isabella) & James both born Scotland, they are all at Winnipeg, Canada in the 1906 census James Petrie Head M 26 Scotland James Petrie Son M 3 Scotland Isabella Petrie Wife F 27 Scotland Isabella Petrie Daughter F 5 Scotland Isabella Petrie nee Tough died 23 May 1913 at Vancouver, informant her brother James Tough death Certificate says 9 years in Canada, 4 years in city. Her father’s surname indexed under Dugh! James Middleton Petrie enlisted at Winnipeg on the 21 December 1915, he is living at the Connaught Hotel aged , 33, a teamster, in answer to the question are you married? He answers NO, next of Kin is his sister Margaret Davidson, this is scored out and is replaced by his Mother Isabella Petrie he was a lance corporal with the 12th Canadian Railway Corps, Army no 829750. He died in France 29 December 1917. Daughter Isobel (Isabella) married James Strachan Dawson 28th April 1925 at Vancouver she died 24 November 1989 Vancouver, they had at least 1 son who was informant at Mother’s death, signature unclear may be Robert. Son James Petrie born c 1903 died 3rd August 1926 British Columbia, as a result of a forestry accident, on Death cert it states 20 Years in Canada , 16 years in British Columbia, Informant James Tough uncle. Note the length of time living in Canada and British Columbia the later death certificates do not give this information.
