Hello George & Gavin & Janice, I was most interested to read of your connections, and have some further information which might be useful to you. Marriage 24 November 1848 WILLIAM PETTRIE & MARGARET WHITE at DAIRSIE, Fife (source IGI) Their Family is listed in 1861 census at Kettle (Ref: district 4 page 16) I have William's occupation listed at various times.... 1861 Ploughman (at time of census) 1862 Hand Loom Linen Weaver (at time of his wife's death) 1890 Ploughman (at time of his son George's marriage) His wife MARGARET WHITE died 28 November 1862 aged 40 years (source SRO Death Cert. Ref : KETTLE 1862 Entry No.43 ) (I have a full transcription of her death certificate from SRO...please just let me know if you want a copy of it ) Although I have noted her mothers name as Elspeth HAIG which differs from Gavin's info (perhaps due to curly handwriting) :o) I have 5 children listed for this couple with birth, marriage & death details for some of them....please just let me know if you want further details for any of them. Elspeth Petrie born ....? Robert Petrie born c 1850 John Petrie born c1855 Margaret Petrie born 24 Aug 1857 George Petrie born 20 March 1860 I found the details of Elspeth when she registered her brother John's death in 1866 ..... this suggests to me that she may have been his older sister...and highlights the gaps in births in this family between 1850 & 1855.... I think we may yet find more children for this couple whose births were not listed in IGI. Gavin... I notice you have a death date for William Petrie (1891) and for Robert Meldrum Petrie (1890) presumably from their death certs.... I would be most interested to receive the details if you would be willing to pass them on. Hope some of the above is of interest. bibi norma ----- Original Message ----- From: "George N Henderson" <henderson57@paradise.net.nz> To: "Petrie-Scotland" <Petrie-Scotland@rootsweb.com> Sent: Saturday, September 30, 2006 3:04 AM Subject: [PETRIE-SCOTLAND] Petrie and White > Hi > This is my second attempt to send this message, I hope that it goes this > time using the new address, I was also able the get back into the Petrie > web page using some lateral thinking! good to see Norma back, and > the list stirred into action > > > On the Wilkie side of my family I have Thomas WILKIE married to Janet > WHITE (WHYTE) at Cupar, Fife, 31 Dec 1858, Janet had a sister, > Margaret WHITE who married William PETRIE, date and place unknown, they > had a son Robert PETRIE, poss b about 1850, who was the informant at the > death of his aunt, Janet WILKIE nee WHITE at Kingskettle on the 20 Sept > 1878.
