Karen Davis and I are working on the Ohio branch of the Petrie family. Charles Petrie (born March 1814) married Sarah M Jewett. Charles' parents were Alexander Petrie and Elizabeth (unknown surname). They came into the United States in 1831 but we have been unable to locate any sailing information. Alexander and Elizabeth had three sons: John Petrie, born about 1808 and died in Jasper, Pike Co, OH; Charles Petrie born March 1814 and died in 1902 in Oberlin, Lorain Co, OH; and James Petrie born 22 Jun 1814 and died on 13 Mar 1886 in Jersey City NJ. Son John married Elizabeth Stewart on 18 Dec 1836 in Blairgowrie, and their first son was born there on 26 April 1838 (James Petrie). He states that he came to the US in 1839 but I have been unable to locate him in the 1840 US census. Does anyone have connections to this branch of the Petries? CHARLES PETRIE baptised19 MARCH 1814 son of JAMES PETRIE & JEAN RATTRAY aka PETTERIE of KIRKMICHAEL Perthshire. Could this be him ? I have only ever found the IGI marriage details for James Petrie & Jean Rattray and the births of their 6 children. Does anyone else have further details for them ? Discovering this birthdate match with the Charles Petrie in Ohio makes me wonder now if perhaps this family emigrated ?
Hello Kathy Many thanks for the further details on your branch of the Petrie's and I find this information very interesting..... as James Petrie & Jean Rattray from Kirkmichael also had a son John Petrie born 1808 and a son James.... he was baptised 06 July 1811.... which would perhaps indicate a late June birth date .......can you check your details for your James as you have him noted as born 1814 which is the same birth year as Charles..... To add to this John, James & Charles had older siblings....namely Alexander, Elizabeth & Betty.
