    2. Hi All, I have the following Petrie-Brown connections in the 19th century in Midlothian and East Lothian. Hope they give you some leads. Occupation: farm labourer, gardener, police superintendent (attended Dalkeith Police College and served in Prestonpans, East Lothian, Tranent and Aberlady). Christina b. 18 Mar 1882 Westerton, Stracathro, Angus, Scotland ch. 20 Jun 1882, Stracathro d. 3 Jul 1944 Royal Infirmary, Edinburgh, Scotland bur. 6 Jul 1944, St. Martins Cemetery, Haddington. Parents: John Thomson & Christina Brown. Occupation: domestic servant in Edinburgh. Abodes: Stracathro, Edinburgh, Prestonpans, Tranent, Aberlady, Haddington. Robert began his working life as a gardener. He joined the East Lothian Constabulary on October 4, 1902. He rose through there ranks to Superintendent and Deputy Chief Constable of East Lothian stationed at Haddington. He retired from the police force in March 1948. "Mr. Petrie, who was in his 87th year, was a very keen golfer ... he was known throughout the town as a remarkably fit man. Proof of this was his winning the Haddington Bowling Club Championship at the age of 77. Mr. Petrie was also well known in horticultural circles and was an active member of East Lothian Horticultural Society." [Haddingtonshire Currier, January 1970.] Robert's Daughter: Christina Brown Petrie (Chris) b. 6 Aug 1906 Prestonpans, East Lothian, Scotland. d. 13 Jun 1981 Yorkston Cottages, Gorebridge, Midlothian, Scotland bur. 18 Jun 1981 St. Martins Cemetery, Haddington. Occupation: teacher. Abodes: Prestonpans, Aberlady, Tranent, Haddington. (never married). "Christina Petrie (Chris) went to Edinburgh University and became a teacher. Eventually she was head of the Infant department in the Primary School in Haddington. She never married and lived with her father in Haddington until his death. She died suddenly in 1881 whilst she and my mother [Annie Thomson Petrie] were staying for a few days with my sister [Margaret Anne Mackenzie]." [Christine Mary (Mackenzie) Glover]
