Hi Cyndy, I have a Jane Brown Petrie born 1870 Lasswade Midlothian, daughter of Andrew Petrie and Ann Lumsden ( married 1859 Kirkcaldy). I have no idea at present where the name Brown comes into this family. Andrews parents were William Petrie and May Mitchell and they were married in Ceres Fife in 1834. Regards Evelyn Brown

Hi Evelyn & Janine! I'll try & answer both questions. As far as anyone knows, I haven't found any evdidence that this is true but I was told both Petrie & Brown came from the Inverness area. My Petrie was Elizabeth who married George Brown in the 1840's. Elizabeth Petrie was born abt. 1813 & George Brown was abt.1809. I don't know if either of them had siblings or what their parents names were. I'd be happy if that's all I found out. Thanks for your suggestion as well Bruce! Thanks Dave! So far nothing rings any bells. I think there have been a few Brown-Petrie marriages. That might make things harder for me to find what I want. I'll keep trying though. I wouldn't know if your family is also mine as I said above I don't know what relatives were left in Scotland when they came to Canada in the 1840's. Do you have any Brown/Petrie connections in the 1830's or 40's?
