Hi Alistair: your info below sounds very familiar, but I am unable to lay my hands on the data I need to connect. I believe we are connected through a Janet Petrie born Nov 30, 1764 in Hillhead, Monikie, married John Skirling (III) in Monikie Parish, Angus in 1791, and was the first record in the beginning of Scottish record-keeping, i.e. her death record for 1855. Maybe I am dreaming, but you know how you read so many letters and documents and then can't remember where you saw it, but I think that Petrie line ( her parents were James Petrie (b1727) and Margaret Stalker (b 1731, married 1759. Their children were John, Thomas, Janet, James. Does this sound familiar to you? My family history (Sk/tirling and Petrie is researched back to early 1700's, and many mentions of same place names, i.e. Arbroath, Monifieth, St Vigeans. I do not any info on what became of Janet's siblings - do you think we are talking about the same family?
