Hi Gavin I would agree, the two dates would suggest either that the Marriage Banns were read on 31 December 1849 and the Marriage took place on 12 January 1850, or that both dates were the Marriage banns being read in their respective parishes in Dunfermline. A check of the original Old Parish Record entries (if they are still available) would clarify. I have a transcription of Christian Petrie's death certificate from 1886 ..... Death Certificate Ref: 1886 BALLINGRY, Fife Page 12 Entry 34 (source: Scottish Records Office) CHRISTINA FOX married to FRANCIS FOX - Coal Miner died 16 December 1886 at 3.30 am at Lumphinnans Age 61 years Parents: WILLIAM PETRIE - Coal Miner (Mother Not Named) Cause of Death: Jaundice (Obstruction) - 14 days Death registered by WILLIAM FOX, Son on 16 December 1886 @ Ballingry. ****************** It is a pity that her mother is not named on the death cert, I have checked my database and can find no trace of a Christian or Christine/a born with a father William between 1820/1830....although if new OPR records have come to light recently....she may be found yet, also Census records might help giving details of her birthplace. To date I know of 3 children for Francis & Christian, but only the 2 boys appear in the IGI's.... James Fox b. 1850 Francis Fox b.1852 Helen Fox b. c1857 We already know that Christian Petrie & Francis Fox's daughter HELEN FOX went on to marry DAVID PETRIE in 1879 at Ballingry ( I have a transcription of the Marriage Certificate, let me know if you need it) DAVID was b.1858 the son of your WILLIAM PETRIE & MARION FYFE Also I was most interested to find that another Petrie couple from Dunfermline had named their child FRANCIS FOX PETRIE... which strongly indicates a possible family connection, perhaps you have looked into this already ?? I have not made the family link yet, but would be most pleased to find out what it is.... FRANCIS FOX PETRIE (aka Frank Petrie) born 23rd March 1867 @ Halbeath, Dunfermline of JAMES PETRIE & JANET SIMPSON he married MARGARET JAMIESON and died in 1940 aged 73 years (I have his death cert transcription, let me know if you need it) in Cowdenbeath, Fife The above JAMES PETRIE & JANET SIMPSON also married in 1850 in Dunfermline, and I wonder if he might be a brother of the above CHRISTIAN PETRIE....?? But I have not yet found his death certificate to discover who his parents were. James & Janet have 11 children recorded in the IGI.... and another 1 (George) shows up in the 1881 census. Janet White Petrie b. 1848 James Petrie b.1854 Thomas Petrie b. 1856 Andrew Petrie b. 1858 John Petrie b. 1860 Elizabeth Petrie b. 1862 William Petrie b. 1864 Francis Fox Petrie b. 1867 Isabella Simpson Petrie b. 1869 Richard Beveridge Petrie b. 1871 William Petrie b. 1874 George Petrie b. 1876 all born Dunfermline.... However we have to be careful with the family records for JAMES PETRIE & JANET SIMPSON, as their was another couple with exact same names who married in 1868 and were having kids in the early 1870's too.....but they were in Dundee !!! I also note that your William Petrie & Marion Fyfe had named a daughter JANET SIMPSON PETRIE in 1856.... so the children's names tie the families together, we just need to unravel the knots !!! :o) Hope some of the above is of interest.... any further info or queries would be most welcome. bibi Norma ----- Original Message ----- From: "Gavin W Petrie" <gavinwp@ihug.co.nz> To: <petrie-scotland@rootsweb.com> Sent: Thursday, November 02, 2006 4:05 AM Subject: [PETRIE-SCOTLAND] Christian PETRIE m. Hello Norma I must have had a senior moment when I sent this email to you, as I have just realised that I do have a transcript of the OPR, as follows:- Old Parish Register 424/14, Dunfermline, County of Fife. Marriage 1849, December 31st "Francis FOX, coal miner, Halbeath and Christian PETRIE residing there gave in their names for Proclamation in order to Marriage, being regularly Proclaimed and no objections made their certificate was granted." So I agree with your suggestion that the marriage would have been on the 12 January 1850. Regarding the death of Christina FOX, I agree with the comments made by Janice, that the information on her death certificate is not correct. The incorrect information is that her father is actually, James PETRIE and not William PETRIE, as recorded. Her mother was Helen ORAM. These details are recoded in your database and on the IGI at Batch No. C119504 for Fife. I have also transcribed the details from the OPR 424/10, for Dunfermline. Christian PETRIE and Francis FOX had the following children:- James FOX bn. 1850 Francis FOX bn. 1852 John FOX bn. 1856 Helen FOX bn. abt 1854 to 1859 (depends on what information you look at). I think it must be 1854, because she does not appear on Scotlands People. Barnard FOX bn. 1859 William FOX bn. 1861 Ann FOX bn. 1864 (Ann, who married William PETRIE, brother to David, (below) also came out to NZ in 1907. Christina FOX bn. 1867 Matthew FOX (twin) bn. 1870 Andrew (twin) bn. 1870 The Helen FOX who married David PETRIE, that you mention below, are my grt grandparents, who came to NZ in 1906. Re the James PETRIE (who is the brother of Christian/Christina PETRIE, who married Francis FOX) & Janet SIMPSON family you mentioned below. I have all those listed, except the first one, Janet White PETRIE, who I notice is in your database. Not sure why I have not connected with the family before.
