Thanks again Heather So Catherine was 17 when she had Jemima! She was married to a Mr Shaw by 1881, and had 2 more children by him. The question is - was the father the son of the family (James Harris,age 17 at the time of Jemima's birth) or the head (George Harris, age 46 at the time of Jemima's birth)?? I don't suppose we shall find out. 17 was a wee bit young for those days - but you never know!! It is also a question of "like mother (Catherine) like daughter (Jemima)"- as she had David when she was 21. I do like the way that then fathers were named by using the surname as a middle name. Pityb that they didn't admit it by being on the birth certificate. Of course, this was way before the Child Support Agency!
