    3. Hi Heather I don't know much about the Harris' up there apart from the fact that they used to have a New Year party for all the family which lasted about 3 days! That's how I know they're related. My great-granny on my dad's side told my mother they used to go to a party in Blairgowrie, and they walked up along Oakbank Road by the river, so I looked up the census records and there they were (plus a family of Valentines, my other great-granny on my dad's side was a Valentine) Hazel ----- Original Message ----- From: "Heather Johnson" <heatherannej@hotmail.com> To: <petrie-scotland@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, November 06, 2006 4:05 AM Subject: Re: [PETRIE-SCOTLAND] Catherine - mother of Jemima Harris Petrie > Hi Hazel, > > Would never say anything out of turn - you know us :-) No rumours > you > want to share? ha ha > > Heather > > > > >>From: "Hazel" <hhgar@btinternet.com> >>Reply-To: petrie-scotland@rootsweb.com >>To: <petrie-scotland@rootsweb.com> >>Subject: Re: [PETRIE-SCOTLAND] Catherine - mother of Jemima Harris Petrie >>Date: Sun, 5 Nov 2006 23:54:39 -0000 >> >>Careful what you say now, these Harris' are related to mine! :o) >>Hazel (Harris) >>----- Original Message ----- >>From: "Stephen Baker" <baker.karanest@btopenworld.com> >>To: <petrie-scotland@rootsweb.com> >>Sent: Sunday, November 05, 2006 3:37 PM >>Subject: Re: [PETRIE-SCOTLAND] Catherine - mother of Jemima Harris Petrie >> >> >> > Thanks again Heather >> > >> > So Catherine was 17 when she had Jemima! >> > >> > She was married to a Mr Shaw by 1881, and had 2 more children by him. >> > >> > The question is - was the father the son of the family (James >> > Harris, age >> > 17 >> > at the time of Jemima's birth) or the head (George Harris, age 46 at >>the >> > time of Jemima's birth)?? >> > >> > I don't suppose we shall find out. 17 was a wee bit young for those >> > days >>- >> > but you never know!! >> > >> > It is also a question of "like mother (Catherine) like daughter >>(Jemima)"- >> > as she had David when she was 21. >> > >> > I do like the way that then fathers were named by using the surname as >> > a >> > middle name.
