Hi Petrie members I see there has been quite a few emails re Petrie's of Panbride. Several years ago a Jacqueline Yuill contacted me saying that she had met up with a cousin of mine in Hastings, New Zealand, and had given her the information that she had researched about a James Petrie and a Margaret Skirlen who had married in Panbride in 1755 and they were our direct forebears. I don't know how reliable this information is but I thought I would post it in case it connects any others. Their descendant was: James Petrie and he married Isabel Fairlie. Their descendants were: Henry, James, John and William James married Jean Milne Their descendants were: James, Alexander, Elizabeth and Robert Alexander married Barbara Gibson and they had eleven children and I am descended from their Robert who came to New Zealand in 1862. When Norma was helping me out she came across information that there were two Alexanders born in Forfar in 1801 so not able to confirm which Alexander was mine. >From the marriage of Alexander Petrie and Barbara Gibson the descendants from their union can all be authenticated. Looking at second names of two of their children I see the name Guthrie and noted that further back in time a James Petrie was married in Guthrie and was wondering if place names could also be used for family members to show a link back to a place where some important event took place??? Anyway hoping this is of some use!!!! Kind regards from a very warm Thames morning in New Zealand. Robert Petrie
