Hi again Daisy, Of course, could well be biased here but Strathardle is a lovely glen - if you do ever get a chance to travel it - take it!! Pay you to have independent transport and then you can stop when you fancy and take it all in :-) I've always had a lovely feeling about the place since I was a child as, every year, we had our holidays at Blairgowrie. We would often travel from Blair to Pitlochry through the glen. Since knowing my heritage, it would be nice to think that perhaps (deep down) there was an affinity. Hi Stephen & all Kirkmichael Petries I'm still lurking in the background but haven't had much time to do any research for a while and most of my files are still packed away in the barn (didn't take long to fill it up again after the ceilidh). My line starts with John Petrie & Elizabeth Reid, then John Petrie (b.1765) & Betsy Robertson, John Petrie (b.1794) & Jean Forbes, to Elizabeth Petrie (b.1839) & John Reid. Obviously the name changed after that. Elizabeth & John had a daughter Annie who married Alexander Macgregor and they had a son James Petrie Macgregor (b.1901) - my grandfather. Hope to find time to search for my files soon. Hazel South Littleton of Rattray p.s. Things are improving in Kirkmichael as the property on the main road has been, or is in the process of being, renovated. The Session House has been renovated and is used for various community activities. There are some good people up there trying to progress some regeneration for the area. Hi Hazel, Got the impression that things might be on the up, up there. I watch the property market - always hopeful of a windfall. Notice Blackcraig went recently and some new self-catering cottages have been built on the site of the old Cromald ones - that's tempting for another year. The dates would make this very plausible. I am hoping to get a look at the parish records soon to see if we can shed any light on it. Hazel, (we are related through the Petries and the Reids), mentioned that the Kirkmichael Session house is trying to organise a fund raising night. This is to be based on the music of Robert (Christened Robertus) Petrie , the son of John Petrie and Elisabeth Reid. He was a famous musician in his day and has composed four collections of fiddle music. We are still in the early stages of planning but will keep everyone posted with the latest information. We were in the glen this afternoon (Saturday) visiting Elma Cochrane, the grand daughter of Susan Mcdonald (above). It's an amazing place - totally beautiful. We're hoping to move our family back up there soon.
