    1. Re: [Petrie-Scotland] Hello from New Zealand
    2. Patricia: Do you have any more information about your Alexander Petrie? My g grandfather, James Petrie, b. 4 Jun 1838 in Arbroath, Angus, Scotland had a birth certificate that said, Child: James Petrie, Mother: Mary Jarron; Father: "Alias" Petrie. This suggests that he was born an illegitimate child. With the help of Norma Thain who found his marriage certificate when he married Helen Wightman on 3 Sep 1890 after the death of his first wife, Jessie Sim on 17 Jul 1888, his father is listed as Alexander Petrie, master baker. Since I do not know which of the various Alexanders who appear in Arbroath records mine might be, I have a "stone wall" which prevents me from getting further back in my ancestry search. If you even knew he was a master baker, it would give me some hope that tracing his line back further had some change of legitimacy for my line. My mother was Mary Edna Petrie, born in Beverly, MA in 1905. Her father was James Petrie, b. 18 Feb 1867 in Arbroath. Since you show your Alexander Petrie having married Jane Sangster in 1833, he could be my gg grandfather in terms of date timing. With James being born in 1838, the period could fit.
