    3. George, I have a Samuel Petrie, born 1851, at Careston near Brechin, but think it unlikely that this is the one you are looking for. Although young, single men moved around from farm to farm, it is unlikely that they would move that far, unless it was to a relatives' farm. The difference in DOB is also more than you would expect. Samuel (Burgess) Petrie's parent were, however, Robert Petrie and Marjory Robertson - could she be a sister of Ann? Marjory is given as born Arbroath around 1811 to Robert Robertson and Marjory Justice, so again unlikely. Jim Petrie, Isle of Wight. ----- Original Message ----- From: "George N Henderson" <henderson57@paradise.net.nz> To: <PETRIE-SCOTLAND-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, April 27, 2005 9:49 PM Subject: [Petrie-Scotland] 1871 census Rayne > Hi all > this is a copy of the part of the 1871 census for Rayne Aberdeenshire, all > of the 1871 census is now now online at scotlands people, and also > Edinburgh. > 1871 census Rayne > > at Oxenloan > > George Durno Head married age 70 Farmer of 120 acres Arable, employing 1 > labourer and 1 boy > > born Rayne > > Ann wife married age 60 born Rayne > > William son unmarried age 32 Farmers son born Rayne > > Isabella daughter unmarried age 30 Farmers daughter born Rayne > > Charles son unmarried age 20 Farmers son born Rayne > > Ann D Law Grand daughter age 6 Scholar born Rayne > > John Sangster boarder unmarried age 32 Shepherd born Chapel of Garioch > > Jean Mackie servant married age 25 General servant domestic born Cairnie > > Samuel Petrie servant unmarried age 15 Farm servant born Kennethmont > > NOTE Ann Durno is Ann PETRIE actually born Kennethmont, daughter of > William PETRIE and Ann ROBERTSON > has anyone any idea who Samuel PETRIE's parents were? > > Regards > George Henderson > > > ==== PETRIE-SCOTLAND Mailing List ==== > If you need to Unsubscribe from this list please send an e.mail to our > utility address at Petrie-Scotland-L-request@rootsweb.com and type the > one word unsubscribe in the message box. 3. Dear George, Sorry for the long delay but Samuel Petrie would appear to be the son of Samuel Petrie and Margaret Dey. Although the birthdate and place are incorrect, Samuel lived until 1919 and there is no other trace of him in the Scotlandspeople census record for 1871. I checked a few years either side so I do not think there is any doubt.
