    3. Stephen, Many thanks for your speedy response. I picked up the information from an e-mail to Petrie-Scotland dated 18th Feb 2001. My direct paternal line goes back to an Alexander Petrie who married Jean Bathie in 1776 and who was a blacksmith in Murroes. The Alexander born in 1761 was born in Murroes - thus my interest. Despite the geographic factors being right for this to be my ancestor, the arithmetic does not work. "My" Alexander would only have been 15 when married, and there is evidence of other possible children, out of wedlock, or to a previous wife before the marriage. I am still interested to build a picture of all the Petries in Murroes and surrounding parishes, so any information on the 1761 Alex is useful. I have about 4 other options for Alexander I am pursuing, but am somewhat depressed to hear that no-one has got further. There are a lot of areas I would like to research to pursue this, but find it difficult to do from a distance. I'm trying to make time to get a trip up to the Dundee Archives soon and will pass on anything I find. Yes, I am going to the Gathering and looking forward to it! You will be relieved to hear that Ryde hospital has now been demolished and the site redeveloped.
