Hi Gang, Ok this is the final update for those taking the trip to Edinburgh...... on Monday 13th August...... For our visit to the Records Office at New Register House, we have 27 attending in total, some are starting at 9.00 am, others have opted for the 1.00pm afternoon session. I have 9.00 am seats booked in the East Wing, for the Petrie Genealogy group... you can arrive anytime between 9.00 am and 10.00 am..... After 10.00 am the seat is lost and entry to use the Records cannot be guaranteed ..... the 1.00 pm folks also know that they cannot be guaranteed entry, as this is "peak season" for the Records Office. Do please let the staff know you are with the Petrie Group before they issue your seat number & pass..... Since folks will be arriving at different times we can just meet inside. Further information about the Records Office and a map of how to get there can be found at http://wood.ccta.gov.uk/grosweb/grosweb.nsf/pages/findus You'll notice on the map that the Records Office is situated next door to the National Archives for Scotland...this is where they hold the indexes for Scottish Wills etc. Entry is free, if you are looking for a will....you will need to know the exact death date.... if a will or inventory exists the indexes will give you a little information, you can then if you wish order copies of any that you are interested in, but be aware that this can prove to be very expensive as they charge per page, and you have to wait a few weeks before they can send it to you. Our Evening Dinner in Edinburgh has turned into quite an event in itself.... as we have 37 attending but with it occurring at the same time as the International Festival Fringe, it was difficult to find a place that would take a group booking...!! However I have managed to book Dinner at 6.00 pm in the Carrubber's Restaurant at the Crowne Plaza Hotel on the Royal Mile in Edinburgh...... and got a great deal with them for a wonderful Table D'hôte Menu...they are offering us 2 courses for 9 pounds 95 pence, or 3 courses for 14 pounds 95 pence..... !!! See their website at http://www.crowneplazaed.co.uk/dining_entertainment.html All venue's are situated perfectly for us to be able to walk from SRO, onto the Royal Mile to the Crowne Plaza, and then onto Edinburgh Castle for the Tattoo at 9.00 pm. Everyone has organised their own tickets for the Military Tattoo, so we will likely say our goodbyes at the Gates of Edinburgh Castle, and wave to each other throughout the show !!!!! :o) Despite it being our Summer time.....it can get cold at night .... some visitors to the Tattoo have been known to arrive with Travel Rugs...Big Coats, Umbrella's and a Thermos.... but it's worth it !!! :o) I cannot find any information on location of car parking facilities in Edinburgh City Centre, and metered parking would be unsuitable and very expensive for the day....perhaps someone else on the List could give best advice ?? Well that's it...the Final, Final Update.... just need you all to turn up now !! :o) Although whilst sending these out I have discovered some have left and are here in Scotland already..... woops !!! :o) I'll get copies made up for them.... :o) Meanwhile, have a safe & pleasant journey.... See you soon !!! :o) Cheerio the noo Norma
