Hi Gang, For the benefit of our New List Members.... here is a summary of the details of our Petrie of Scotland Gathering which will be held in August 2001 in Dundee, Scotland.... Everyone on this list is invited to attend as many of the undernoted events as they please, and of course bring along their family members or friends who might be interested in attending too. CIVIC RECEPTION, Friday 10 August 2001 7pm ------------------------------------------------------------------- Our group have been invited to a Civic Reception with the Lord Provost of Dundee who wishes to welcome the Petrie of Scotland Genealogical Group to the City of Dundee ... there is no charge for this event. PETRIE GATHERING - Marryat Hall, Dundee Saturday 11 August 2001..... 10 am - 12 Noon (setting up & blether time) 12 noon - 4.30 pm (Petrie public joining us...) ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Our Gathering will be an excellent opportunity for us all to display our Petrie Family Tree's, Family Pictures, and any other items and memorabilia, which might be of interest or use. Tables will be available for you to display your Petrie stuff...... We will have from 10 am till 12 noon to spend time together and set up our displays. We will open our doors to the Petrie public from 12 noon - 4.30 pm...... Cafeteria, toilet and disabled access facilities will also be available. CEILIDH, Saturday Evening 11 August 2001 ------------------------------------------------------------ Our Petrie Family Ceilidh is being hosted by Hazel & Dave Garside (of the Kirkmichael Petrie's) at their Home Farm in Rattray, Perthshire, here we can celebrate our family gathering in the same way as many of our Scottish Ancestors did..... in the barn & courtyard, with the fiddle & accordion ringing in our ears !! There will be a ticket cost involved....to cover the costs of caterers, entertainers etc. and as soon as we can establish final numbers attending will let you know what it is. TOURIST ATTRACTIONS in ANGUS for Sunday 12 August 2001 - Discount Tickets. -------------------------------------------------------------- The Dundee & Angus Tourist Board will also be setting up a display at our Gathering at the Marryat Hall on Saturday 11th, and they are currently negotiating discount tickets for a variety of tourist attractions in the Angus area for us. I expect they will be available either as coupons or for sale at the Tourist Board display stand.... but only if you want them.....we are under no obligation to purchase !! SCOTTISH RECORDS OFFICE - Edinburgh. Monday 13 August 2001 9.00 am - 4.00 pm -------------------------------------------------------------- This will be an early start in Edinburgh, so some might prefer to head to Edinburgh for an overnight stay on Sunday night and meet at SRO on Monday morning..... you pay on entry and the current daily ticket price is 17.00 pounds There is an alternative charge which is currently 10 pounds, for access from 1pm to 4.30 pm for those who would prefer a later start and shorter visit :o) At the SRO you can access information on all your Scottish Surname interests they hold the Birth, Marriage & Death certificates from 1855 to 2000, the Old Parish Records, the 1881 & 1891 census indexes. There are very many more records which are available at SRO, but too numerous to mention here.
