Hi Norma, My 'cousin' sent me this email and wondered if anyone could help In amongst some extra information from the 1851 Census for Kirkmichael I found the following. It looks like Overblack Mill: Ref 2/8 Name Age: Marr: Status: Occupation: CHARLES ROBERTSON 56 M Head Ag. Lab ELIZABETH ROBERTSON 48 M Wife Plus their children: Also shown with them: - JAMES PETRIE 89 W Father-in-Law I found that CHARLES married ELIZABETH PETRIE on 17/12/1826. They had the following family: CLARK 14/10/1846 JOHN 29/8/1833 DONALD 1/2/1843 JANET 12/3/1831 ALEXANDER 29/4/1836 The only CHARLES ROBERTSON I could find around his birth and not very near was to ROBERT ROBERTSON & MARJORY ROBERTSON 22/10/1791. ELIZABETH PETRIE was baptized to JAMES PETRIE and JEAN RATTRAY 19/12/1802. They also had: - BETTY 29/4/1807 JOHN 28/11/1808 JAMES 6/7/1811 ALEXANDER 6/4/1805 Married: 20/7/1800. >From the above JAMES was born about 1762 but no sign of him. I wonder if his age is shown wrong? I find from the database info that the James & Christina who are listed with their 3 children, are James Petrie & Christina Low (Stephen's line). With the others Alexander age 33, Elisabeth age 30 and Jane age 17...it would be interesting to see the full entry as I wonder if they may all be siblings ?? The address might help make a match too.... Points to ponder !!!..... :o) I spotted Robert Petrie & Janet Stewart have a daughter Jean born 1832, she did not marry until 1859 and she had a sister Elisabeth who never married and a brother Alexander (no further details on him) although the ages all appear to be out by 2/3 years...could it have been a deliberate act or bad arithmetic on the part of the householder ?? Just a thought ..... :o) I also had a quick look again at the potential links of John Petrie & Betty Robertson with Alexander Petrie & Annie Robertson all of Kirkmichael..... could they be brothers ?? and it's interesting they both married Robertson girls....(just to make matters worse .....could the wives have been sisters ??) In the database I noticed a George Petrie & Unnamed Mother had 2 sons Alexander b. 1757 & John b. 1761 baptised in Collace....could this be a link worth following up further ?? And a Peter Petrie & Unnamed Mother had a son Alexander born in 1763 in Abernethy, with no further children recorded for him until 1774...possibly another case of missing birth records for any children born in between ??
