I am looking for history notes on our family's history and emmigration from Scotland to upstate New York. My great grandfather was William Petrie who married Afra Sexton Petrie. They had 10 children. My grandfather was George Sexton Petrie (1883-1930) who married Alice Hilton. My father was LaFayette Petrie (1911-1970) who married Doris Quinn. Doria, Do you know approximately when your first Petrie arrived in NY? And when you say "upstate," do you have any more specific location available to you? My gg-grandfather, John PETRIE, who had a brother, William F. PETRIE, arrived in Rosendale, Ulster County NY with his parents and siblings sometime between 1812 (when his youngest sibling was born in Scotland) and 1830 (when he was married to Jane RONK in NY). If your William is the brother to my John, then I actually have some interesting information on him, including artifacts and a photo of William's son, Alexander Phemister PETRIE. I would be happy to share any of this with you or anyone else in the PETRIE group.
