    1. [Petrie-Scotland] Our Petrie Gathering
    2. Norma Thain
    3. Hi Gang, ...well I've linked up my PC again and am back on-line finally !! And now catching up with a major pile of e.mails.... !!! But thought I would pop in with a quick run down of the events as they happened.... Delighted to let you all know that the Petrie Gathering went down a treat, and we all thoroughly enjoyed meeting each other and finally putting a face to some of the names on our list.... many of our members are still on holiday in Scotland touring all over, and I hope they will let the list know all about their trip and the Gathering when they return.... All the events were very successful and with coverage in the local Dundee, Forfar, Arbroath and Orkney newspapers (those are the ones I know or have heard of) the Petrie public response was very good.... many Petrie's came along and discussed their family history with our group members who were displaying at the Gathering, and I do hope they will share those stories and finds with us here on the list. I notice first pix have been posted to our website already, by Hazel showing the Ceilidh in full swing, and I know many more will follow shortly as folks return home.... The Civic Reception was well received and we all thoroughly enjoyed meeting each other for the first time. The hospitality of the Lord Provost and his staff was excellent, and we also were treated to the "5 bob tour" of the City Chambers which delved into the civic history of Dundee. Saturday morning was wet.... but did not dampen our spirits as we prepared our Family Display's for the Petrie public...the hall was well decorated with Petrie information throughout on our tables and boards. The displays were wonderful and many thanks go out to all who displayed their Petrie details and assisted and helped in so many ways on the day. The newspaper coverage not only brought in a lot of visitors to the Gathering but a good many telephone and e.mail enquiries too.... and I now have a major pile of details from Petrie's who wish to find out more about their family history, I also notice I have quite a few "live" connections to pass on to related list members !!!! :o) Since the Gathering we have had 8 new members join this list already .... a warm welcome goes out to them all, and many thanks to those who have already posted their known Petrie details, I hope the others will follow soon. Meanwhile I have a number of e.mail addresses to contact via the visitors forms I received and will contact them all shortly to invite them onto the list too.....so look out for more new members joining our Petrie gang over the next few days !!! The Ceilidh on Saturday night was great fun, and Hazel & Dave and their helpers Monica, Lesley & Paul, as well as the caterer and the band did a wonderful job in making us all feel very welcome, and providing a lovely evenings entertainment with a wonderful buffet.... Tay Valley FHS opened their doors to us on Sunday..... a few folks turned up, but I think most were probably exhausted with the events of the previous 2 days !! We were offered full use of the facilities and a tour of their extensive library....and all had a good "blether" over coffee !!! :o) Monday was our day at SRO....yet again the weather let us down, but a few of us managed to put in a full day's research.....before heading to the Crowne Plaza on the Royal Mile for a lovely meal....we then donned our raincoats and headed for a soggy but excellent performance at the Tattoo !!! :o) I hope all our members who attended will post to the list to let you all know about their experience of the Gathering.....my sincere thanks go to them, one and all, for all their wonderful efforts, and for making our Petrie Gathering such a memorable experience !!! :o) Cheerio the noo Norma :o)

    3. HI Norma, Am enjoying all of the reports of the gathering, especially yours which is so complete. Perhaps it is time now for you to take a nice rest. Don't want to hear any bad reports regarding your health. So take heed AND REST!!!!!!!!!!! Sometimes, things happen for a reason and if I had gone to Scotland last week I would not have been available to my youngest sister whose husband died very suddenly on the morning of the 8th which just happened to be my birthday. (Last year I was in Aberdeen on that day - a memorable occasion). His death was quite a shock to all of us - he was 69. His daughter, who was extremely close to her Dad is expecting her first child on Sept. 2nd. We feared that she might go into premature labor but so far so good. I don't believe she will make it to the 2nd, however. She is a petite little thing, normal weight less than 100 lbs. Anxiously awaiting more reports of the festivities.
