Hi Norma and Everyone, I would like to repost my Petrie interests thus far and to wish everyone who is going to attend the Petrie Gathering a great time. Unfortunately I cannot make it, but you will be in my thoughts over that time. My Great grandmother was Crichton Petrie. I seem to remember my mother telling me that her grandmothers real name was Mary, although on Crichton's Marriage and Death Certificate and on the Birth and Marriage Certificate of her son she always used the name Crichton. From the details on the Death Certificate, Crichton would have been born in Perthshire, Scotland in 1837/8. She immigrated to New Zealand in 1857 and married John Henry Garmonsway in the home of the Reverend David Bruce, Church Of Scotland, in Auckland. Crichtons parents were Crichton Blair and James Petrie ( Stonemason). I was told that Crichton had twins, a son James and a daughter Crichton born 6 July 1870. On checking this information out I found that it was not correct and that James was born in 1868 and Crichton was incorrect. The name of the female child born on 6 July 1870 was Christiana Augusta Garmonsway, she was the daughter of John Henry Garmonsway and Crichton Petrie. The name of the other children that Crichton and John Henry had were, Letitia, John Henry ( my grandfather), Edward Alexander, Charles Thomas, Helen Blair and Frances Henry. Crichton died of Uterine Cancer on 14 August 1885 at Morningside, Auckland, New Zealand. So far I have been unable to locate her on any passengers lists. Thats all folks. Norma, do you want me to send you copies of Crichton's certificates to put up on your board at the gathering. It looks like I too am one of your orphans. Thanks everyone Keep Smiling and Keep the skeletons rattling in the cupboard Jill Van Der Reyden http://www.geocities.com/la_zouche
