Hi All It has been quite sometime since I have sent anything to the list Norma do you remember last year the Charles/David Petrie and Annie McKay discussion?? I was reading an old post of yours where you had looked up the birth of David Petrie Mckay and the mother was Ann McKay of Lochland Street Arbroath. Playing around in the 1881 census I have found on page 2 of gro ref 272/30 Dwelling: Lochshade Arbroath Annie L Mackay age 4 born Arbroath On page 1 same address John M Petrie/George F Petrie both age 7 born Arbroath This would have put them age 24 and her age 21 in 1898, I think I know where I would put my money on who was the father of David Petrie Mckay if this is the same people. Where is Lochland Street in regard to Lochshade?? In regard to my own research, I have been searching the 1851 census for my David Petrie, son of Thomas and Ann born 1826. I think I have found him in Nigg, staying in the house of Kenneth Watt, age 23, visitor and noted as a clerk. I have allways suspected that he could at least read and write because of his life in Tasmania. Hotel keeper, store keeper and gold mine owner. I have been spending a lot of time delving into his life there. Also one of his sons who was my grandfather. Norma, you found the parents of Thomas to be David and Marjory (Williamson) in Kinnell. Playing with the IGI, I suspect his parents to be James and Martha (Matti) Rennet (Bennet), would you have any information to support this? My trip to Scotland has been dashed by my youngest son deciding to get married in October. I have reminded him of priorities but he has too many allies. Thats all for now. I have managed to get a weeks leave so hope to get stuck into it and sort out this mountain a paper in my den. If the weather stays the same, overcast with showers for the last two weeks I should be able to get something done, I think the sun came out for about five minutes today.
