    3. Hi Denis, Great to hear from you, I was very interested to read of your 1881 census find showing Ann L. McKay at same address as the two Petrie boys...... did it mention Ann McKay's relationship to the family if they were at the same address ?? They were the twin sons of Alexander Petrie & Barbara Matthew, namely George Ford Petrie & John Moir Petrie b. 10 March 1874 and both boys graduated from Aberdeen University with an M.B. Ch.B in 1898, George went on to take up a post in Elstrie, Herts, England and John with Thornton Health Board, in Surrey & Birmingham, England...... but no further information on them. I'm not sure where Lochland Street is in regard to Lochshade, perhaps one of our listers from Arbroath can help us with that. With regard to your Thomas Petrie's parents.... I appreciate we still have a big question mark over his parents....despite having his death certificate which was registered by his son in law ..... Death Certificate Ref: 1878 ARBROATH Page 1 Entry 1 (source Scottish Records Office) THOMAS PETRIE - Wood Merchant married to 1. ANN HUTCHEON 2. JANE CAMPBELL died 31 December 1877 at 2.30 pm at 10 Church Street, Arbroath Age 80 years Parents: JAMES PETRIE - Lint Millar (sp?) in Kinnell - deceased MARJORY PETRIE ms WILLIAMSON - deceased Cause of Death: Apoplexy (7 days) Death registered by WILLIAM MARTIN, Son-in -Law Engine Fitter of 33 East Abbey Street, Arbroath on 02 January 1878 @ Arbroath ************* I am still more inclined towards the son-in-law having wrongly noted the father as James Petrie instead of David Petrie, and making a bad guess on his age. So it does leave it all open to question !! We know David Petrie & Marjory Williamson had a son Thomas born 12 October 1802 at Kinnell Did you ever find Thomas with his 2nd wife Jean Campbell in the 1851 census ?? This would help confirm his age & birthplace. I know we found him in the 1841 census but of course the ages were rounded up/down then to the nearest 5 years, and no specific birthplace other than"of this county" is noted in 1841 census. So not much use for us at this time.... Sorry but I have nothing at the moment to support your theory of him being son of James Petrie & Martha Rennet (poss aka Matti Bennet & Mathulda Bennet) as I do not have a record of a son named Thomas for them (although records could be missing !!) ...have you found one ?? But if we are prepared to accept that Martha Rennet & Matti Bennet & Mathulda Bennet are all one and the same person due to spelling or transcription errors in her name from IGI & OPR. I find that, although their is no marriage date for them, their children were born between 1764 & 1780 in Kinnell...and if your Thomas was born anytime between 1798 -1802... I reckon we would be pushing it anyway with her likely age...to make her Thomas's mother. Delighted to hear you have found a match for your David Petrie b c1826 in Nigg, Kincardine..did it state he was born Marykirk ?? Sorry to hear you cannot make it to the Gathering, not to worry, you'll be having your own family celebration with the wedding !!! :o) Cheerio the noo Norma ----- Original Message ----- From: <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Sunday, February 18, 2001 9:08 AM Subject: [Petrie-Scotland] Returning > Hi All > It has been quite sometime since I have sent anything to the list > > Norma > do you remember last year the Charles/David Petrie and Annie McKay > discussion?? > I was reading an old post of yours where you had looked up the birth of > David Petrie Mckay and the mother was Ann McKay of Lochland Street > Arbroath. > > Playing around in the 1881 census I have found on page 2 of gro ref 272/30 > > Dwelling: Lochshade Arbroath > Annie L Mackay age 4 born Arbroath > > On page 1 same address > > John M Petrie/George F Petrie both age 7 born Arbroath > > This would have put them age 24 and her age 21 in 1898, I think I know where > I would put my money on who was the father of David Petrie Mckay if this > is the same people.
