    3. Dear George & Rosemary You almost gave me a heart attack. I have been doing my 'tree' - the Petries of Kennethmont for nearly 20 years and have not yet come across any living descendants from the second family of Samuel Petrie & Margaret Cassie - of who I am a direct descendant. The John you mention is my Great Grandfather William Petries younger brother. I have been wondering for years what happened to John after his mother died in Huntly in 1884 and could not find any trace locally. My Dads older cousin Jean Murray remembers an Uncle John who was in the army and may have been in Aberdeen - but nothing more. I also have a lot of details of not only Samuels first family by Margaret Dey but also Samuel's siblings and his ancestors and I also knew of William Petrie being married to Anne Issac and then Ann Robertson and the 14 off spring (at least). I'm sure I have tons of information you would find interesting regarding births, marriages, deaths and burials. Please list your address and I will send you a copy printout from my database with the details of hundreds of Petries. (PS One of Samuels brothers Charles Petrie & wife Isabella Farquharson have a descendant George Henderson from New Zealand who is also on this email list. I'm glad to here from you both. Your cousin Carol Petrie Inverness ----- Original Message ----- From: George Robb <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Monday, February 26, 2001 4:23 PM Subject: [Petrie-Scotland] Petries of Kennethmont > Hello and greetings to all Petries, > This is our first message. My wife, Rosemary's, maiden name is Petrie. We live in Ellon, Aberdeenshire and have been researching our respective family histories for about three years now. We have met with varying degrees of success, as one would expect. Rosemary is descended from the Petries of Kennethmont thus:- > Rosemary Hunter Petrie b. 4 Nov 1947, Aberdeen. Her parents were Edward Watson Petrie and Mary Cook Hunter. They were married on 8 Nov 1946, Aberdeen. Edward Watson was born 19 Dec 1919 in Aberdeen and died 16 Aug 1991, also in Aberdeen. > Edward Watson Petrie's parents were John Petrie and Alice Gibb Watson who were married 5 Oct 1907 in Aberdeen. John was born 8 Nov 1876 in Forgue and died 26 Jul 1944 in Aberdeen. John was with the Gordon Highlanders for many years and was at the siege of Ladysmith during the Boer War. > John's parents were Samuel Petrie b. 27 Oct 1826, Kennethmont and Margaret Cassie b. 13 Oct 1842, New Byth. They were married 10 Nov 1864, Culsalmond. Samuel was previously married to Margaret Dey abt 1851 at Mortlach. She died 10 Jan 1863 at Dufftown. Samuel died 3 Sep 1899 at Aberlour. > Samuel's parents were Andrew Petrie and Barbara Milne. Andrew was born 25 Oct 1798, Kennethmont and Barbara was born abt 1809 in Rhynie. Andrew died 4 Jun 1874 at Kennethmont and is buried in the old kirkyard there. He seems to have inherited the offices of Kirk Officer and Gravedigger from an elder half-brother. Alexander. > Andrew was the son of William Petrie and Anne Robertson m. 24 Dec 1797, Rhynie. William was born Oct 1768, Kennethmont and died bet. 1841-1851. He was previously married to Anne Isaac on 31 May 1788, Premnay. She died bet. 1795-1797. In all, he had 14 children that we know of. > William's parents were William Petrie and Elizabeth Gordon who were married 16 Aug 1759. The marriage was recorded at both Gartly and Drumblade. They had 5 children that we know of. > This is a resume of our Petrie line. We have about 130 Petrie members in our history thus far. Most names will give b.m.d. and addresses and occupations. > We look forward to corresponding with any members who find something of interest to them. > Looking forward to hearing from you, > > George and Rosemary Robb > > > > ==== PETRIE-SCOTLAND Mailing List ==== > If you need to Unsubscribe from this list please send an e.mail to our utility address at [email protected] and type the one word unsubscribe in the message box.
