Hi Gang, With the Gathering only a few weeks away now.....here is an update for all who are attending :o) All events are as previously posted, and I will send a final schedule of events to the list shortly for the benefit of our newest members, and will definitely and finally close the Attendance Lists on Sunday 10th June :o) Hazel and I are now working on 100 people for each of the 3 main events....the Civic Reception, the Gathering, and the Ceilidh. So lots of people for us all to meet up and blether with !!! :o) I will during June month personally contact everyone (via e.mail) who has already sent me their Attendance forms, to confirm all details and get a postal address etc. Tickets for the Civic Reception on Friday 10th August ---------------------------------------------------------------- Will be posted out in early July, I understand some folks are starting out on their trips from mid July onwards, so this will ensure they have them before they leave. Tickets for the Ceilidh --------------------------- Will be available to be purchased at the Gathering at the Marryat Hall between 10.00 am and 12 noon when we are setting up our Family Displays, your name will be listed to make sure you don't miss getting your tickets. I reckon this is probably the best set-up in this instance, else we can end up in all sorts of problems with various currencies and bank drafts etc if we try to collect Ceilidh Ticket monies beforehand. I'm looking for 1 or 2 people used to handling and counting UK cash to help with this, please contact me direct if you can volunteer to help man the Ceilidh Ticket Desk. Hazel (of the Kirkmichael Petrie's) & her husband Dave are very kindly organising the Ceilidh for us and playing host on the night at their farm at South Littleton, Rattray. We had a chat on the phone today and all plans are in place. Ticket price should be finalised over the next couple of weeks. Should anyone prefer to leave the car and take group transport to and from the Ceilidh on the evening of Saturday 11th I have booked a coach to be available in Dundee City Centre (7 pm pick up at Albert Museum) to take folks to the Ceilidh at South Littleton, Rattray and return at midnight to Dundee, with a door to door drop off (within Dundee) on the return journey. The price on a 30 seater coach provided all seats are taken works out at £4.00 per person for the return journey.... and more coaches are available should we need them. I suspect the journey home on the bus might take a while with folks getting dropped off at their hotels etc. But you can also look on it as a late night tour of Dundee..... !!! :o) Bus tickets for those who pre-book, will also be available to be purchased at the Gathering at the same desk as the Ceilidh tickets. I will enquire whether you wish to book tickets for the bus when I contact you to confirm your attendance details & postal address etc. As I mentioned previously in my mail to Jim Petrie.... I have been in touch with the organisers of the Sir William Matthew Flinders Petrie Exhibition which is being held until September 2001 at the Burrell Collection in Glasgow, and they have asked if we would be interested in doing a joint press release on the Gathering and the Exhibition...I have of course said yes, so we may hit the National Newspapers yet !!! :o) Smaller numbers are participating in the trip to SRO & the Military Tattoo on Monday 13th.... so we have manageable numbers to organise a convoy drive through from Dundee, or some might prefer to take the train, or alternatively head for Edinburgh on the Sunday, and meet us there on the Monday. You also have an option of a full day at Scottish Records Office (New Register House) 9.00 am - 4.30 pm or a 1pm - 4.30 pm session. We can then perhaps meet up for an evening meal in a nice place in the City Centre (suggestions of where to go... most welcome) before we say our Goodbye's and finish our evening at the Military Tattoo. I will discuss these options soon with those who have indicated to me that they plan to attend the SRO & Tattoo events on Monday 13th. Anyone not able to attend the Gathering but wishing to send on their family tree's, photographs, family memento's etc. Can send photocopies (don't want to be responsible for original documents !! :o) on to me, and we shall be pleased to display them at the Gathering.....you'll get my postal address in our Petrie-Scotland Website...just click on my name in the member list. Counting the days ...... !!! :o) For the noo Norma
