Hello Murray, Very interested to read your mail re. the Kennethmont Petrie's. The William Petrie you mention is my wife, Rosemary's, 3rd g-grandfather. Her line of descent came via Ann Robertson. Her line continues via Andrew then Samuel to her grandfather John. Like yourself, we also believe in the high probability of the various Petrie sections being connected. One factor which makes us believe this, is that no Petrie's seemed to be in Kennethmont prior to this William's father. This would imply that ancestry stems from outwith Kennethmont. Thenceforth, for about a hundred years, all Petrie's in this area could be directly linked to William. Samuel (mentioned earlier) seemed to live and work in the Drumblade, Forgue area for much of his later life. At that time a contingent of Petrie's seemed to be centred in and around Huntly. Because of the close geographical proximity it is hard to believe that they were not somehow related. We are afraid that we have not furthered your theory re. the various groups, but at least you can now number your known descendant groups as four. Regards, George and Rosemary
