    1. [Petrie-Scotland] PETRIEs of Kettle parish, Fife
    2. Ivor Normand
    3. Dear fellow PETRIE researchers, I'm new to your list this week, and would like to know if anyone has researched Fife connections. William PETRIE had the following children baptised, all in Kettle parish and all recorded as PEDRIE (and indexed thus in the IGI). By Janet BUCK (m. 2 Apr 1790, Kettle): Born Baptised Died (Age) Married James 8 Apr 1791 10 Apr 1791 16 Mar 1886 (94), Kettle 1815: Mary WALLACE William 2 Jul 1793 4 Jul 1793 [1851+] 1821: Janet SMART David 6 Apr 1795 12 Apr 1795 [in infancy] Andrew 5 Apr 1796 10 Apr 1796 1 Jan 1865 (68), Kettle Helen BIRRELL John 2 Sep 1798 14 Sep 1798 [1851+] [unknown] David 7 Sep 1804 9 Sep 1804 16 Apr 1870 (65), Kettle 1831: Helen DALRYMPLE By Margaret WILKIE (marriage not found): Janet 1810? "Mathie") George PETRIE (1812-91) and Annie STEWART (1824-75) are my 3x great-grandparents. Their descendants occupy more than three pages of Family Tree Maker "Outline Descendant Chart" print-out (81 lines per page), with currently 1.5 pages on the descendants of George's sister and (half-)brothers. It's two years since I last gave close attention to my PETRIE line, but I'm now keen to return to it and open it up a lot further, especially with the approaching August gathering. I'll look forward to any responses. Best wishes to all, Ivor Normand (Edinburgh)

    3. Hi Ivor, We were interested in your message about the descendants of William Petrie at Kettle. I cannot make any direct connection, but in the course of our research we have been looking at Collessie Parish and adjoining parishes, and like you have found some unusual spellings. The Collessie Parish was the worst. Our Petries come from Robert Petrie who was married Christian Scott at Collessie in 1763 under the name of Patrie. We extracted the other unusual spellings for Petrie and submitted a list of those we found on the Web page. Looking at our list of Parishes in Fife, Kettle is an adjoining parish so it is possible that they moved in that direction. In our list there is a William Peathrie s/o James born on 9/12/1766 at Collessie, and a James Peathrie s/o Walter Peathrie born on 12/7/1731 also at Collessie. The parish records for Collessie does not name the mothers. We are currently orphans in the Petrie families, and as we cannot as yet find a birth for Robert and no other Petries seem to be descended from our Robert and Christian we are not making much progress. If we could prove a relationship with another member of the group it would be great. By the way we are in sunny Sydney Australia, and our Petrie ancestor, George Septimus, son of James and grandson of Robert migrated to Melbourne in 1853.
