    1. [Petrie-Scotland] GATHERING 2001 - Update of Events
    2. Norma Thain
    3. Hi Gang, As we ease into 2001, here is an update of the plans that are in place for our Petrie of Scotland Gathering which will be held in August 2001 in Dundee, Scotland. Everyone on this list is invited to attend as many of the undernoted events as they please, and of course bring along their family members and friends who might be interested in attending too. Here is a break down of each event ..... CIVIC RECEPTION, Friday 10 August 2001 7pm ------------------------------------------------------------------- Our group have been invited to a Civic Reception with the Lord Provost of Dundee who wishes to welcome the Petrie of Scotland Genealogical Group to the City of Dundee ... At present attendance numbers are limited to 75 although I may be able to negotiate more ??..... tickets will be sent to those wishing to attend, there is no charge for this event. PETRIE GATHERING - Marryat Hall, Dundee Saturday 11 August 2001..... 10 am - 12 Noon (setting up & blether time) 12 noon - 4.30 pm (Petrie public joining us...) ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Our Gathering will be an excellent opportunity for us all to display our Petrie Family Tree's, Family Pictures, and any other items and memorabilia, which might be of interest or use. Tables will be available for you to display your Petrie stuff...... We will have from 10 am till 12 noon to spend time together and set up our displays. Our Petrie Gathering at the Marryat Hall, Dundee will be advertised through various media..... once word gets around, we can expect to be joined on the day by any number of Petrie descendants from the local area and from other counties in Scotland. We will open our doors to the Petrie public from 12 noon - 4.30 pm...... I expect some will know their family history and will be looking for connections through our displays, others will perhaps not know much of their family history......but will be curious to find out more. We can distribute a Petrie info sheet to the visiting public to allow them to note their known Petrie connections, along with their name and address, and they can hand these in at the Gathering and have a quick look up done on the database or can send it on later......this will also allow us to follow up any Petrie connections that may be discovered after the event. To this end I will have 2 PC's with my full Petrie database available for information and look ups, and I will also bring along hard copies of all Petrie birth, marriage & death certificate transcriptions that I have in my files to date. If you are not attending the Gathering but wish to send on information to be displayed on your behalf, this can be sent to me by post. (Copies only please, as we don't want to be responsible for original documents !! :o) I expect we will be in need of a volunteer or two, to set-up and attend to these on the day, if anyone is willing please let me know. Tay Valley Family History Society will also have a display at the Gathering Murray & Clare Nicoll from this list, have very kindly offered to organise the TVFH participation for us. Cafeteria, toilet and disabled access facilities will also be available. CEILIDH, Saturday Evening 11 August 2001 ------------------------------------------------------------ Our Petrie Family Ceilidh is being held by kind invitation of Hazel & Dave Garside (of the Kirkmichael Petrie's) at their Home Farm in Rattray, Perthshire, here we can celebrate our family gathering in the same way as many of our Scottish Ancestors did..... in the barn & courtyard, with the fiddle & accordion ringing in our ears !! Hazel has also very kindly offered to organise the Ceilidh, and will give us further details as soon as she can. There will be a ticket cost involved....to cover the costs of caterers, entertainers etc. and as soon as we can establish numbers attending she will be able to let us know what it is. TOURIST ATTRACTIONS in ANGUS for Sunday 12 August 2001 - Discount Tickets. -------------------------------------------------------------- The Dundee & Angus Tourist Board will also be setting up a display at our Gathering at the Marryat Hall on Saturday 11th, and they are currently negotiating discount tickets for a variety of tourist attractions in the Angus area for us. I expect they will be available either as coupons or for sale at the Tourist Board display stand.... but only if you want them.....we are under no obligation to purchase !! SCOTTISH RECORDS OFFICE - Edinburgh. Monday 13 August 2001 9.00 am - 4.00 pm -------------------------------------------------------------- This will be an early start in Edinburgh, so some might prefer to head to Edinburgh for an overnight stay on Sunday night and meet at SRO on Monday morning..... you pay on entry and the current daily ticket price is 17.00 pounds There is an alternative charge which is currently 10 pounds, for access from 1pm to 4.30 pm for those who would prefer a later start and shorter visit :o) At the SRO you can access information on all your Scottish Surname interests they hold the Birth, Marriage & Death certificates from 1855 to 2000, the Old Parish Records, the 1881 & 1891 census indexes. Tickets for the Edinburgh Military Tattoo can be ordered on-line or by telephone, tickets for this year's 2001 performance became available this month .... and appear to be going fast !! http://www2.edinburgh-tattoo.co.uk/ Click on "Tickets" in the main webpage index.... and be sure to check out the Seating Plan with Prices & the Performance Details & Ticket Availability, before booking your tickets on-line. ACCOMMODATION ------------------------- The Dundee & Angus Tourist Board have offered us free assistance for anyone looking for accommodation in the area. You can contact them via their website at http://www.angusanddundee.co.uk/intro.htm Alternatively, if you are planning on finding accommodation elsewhere in Scotland, checkout the Scottish Tourist Boards website at http://www.visitscotland.com/ *********** NAME BADGES ---------------------- Will be absolutely necessary to help us all recognise each other, these will be sent with your Civic Reception Tickets, or alternatively made available for you when you attend the Gathering...... *********** Sincere thanks go to everyone who has already offered assistance and suggestions for the Gathering, they are all very much appreciated, and if you can think of anything else which might be useful ...do get in touch. I plan to post a "Gathering Attendance" form to the Mailing List and to the Website shortly .....which I would be grateful if you would complete and send on to me if you are planning to attend any of the events. This will be vital to help calculate the number of folks intending to participate in each event. Cheerio the noo Norma

    3. Hi Herb & Trevor, I had spotted this to and knew there must be a problem, as similar came through for Bette, and do not be surprised if one comes through for me too, as I also looked at Trevor's page to see if there was an obvious problem. Trevor please do not worry about this, it would appear there is a glitch in their programme..... so I have contacted MyFamily.com to let them know that their FT programme is mis-behaving...with silly messages. I'll let you know the outcome.
