    2. Dear Bakers: I share your issue regarding the quiet nature of this site in recent times. However, I do see notes from various parties from time to time. We are still out here. My maternal grandfather was James Petrie who was born in Arbroath in 1867. He emigrated to the Boston, MA area in the US in 1888. His father was also named James and was also born in Arbroath. It appears that his grandfather was Alexander Petrie, a master baker in Arbroath. Best regards, Bruce R. B. Arnold Email: brucearnld@aol.com

    2. Alexandra, The logons we had gotten from Norma were for "Genealogy.com" now "Genforum.genealogy.com." You might go to that site (_http://genforum.genealogy.com/_ (http://genforum.genealogy.com/) ). When I go to that site, it still recognizes me and my profile and I can still log in with the password I got from Norma but I don't see the link to Petrie pictures and files like I used to. The link to the Petrie family forum there is _http://genforum.genealogy.com/petrie/_ (http://genforum.genealogy.com/petrie/) . It may be of interest to you and it is still free. You might ask Genforum.genealogy.com whether the Petrie files and pictures are still available or whether they have been deleted. You may now have to pay the Genforum.genealogy.com subscription to look at the files and pictures if they still do exist. If someone knows how to access the files and pictures from the old Petrie site, I would be interested in knowing too. Dave Petrie Arden Hills, Minnesota, USA

    3. Hello List and Helen The Petrie middle name may be something so innocent such as respect for a neighbour/friend who was most helpful to the single mum. I have a Christina Mackay Petrie born in NZ - the last child of 8 to James Petrie and Jane Robertson. I have no idea where the Mackay comes from. James & Jane had been in NZ for 20 years when Christina was born. I think this is just a coincidence and don't think there is a connection with Helen's friend. 3. Hi Janine Mum received a christmas card from a relation Mabel Eunson who still lives in the Orkneys and reckons that Joseph Petrie came from Caithness to Burray and then to Flotta where he married Christina Shearer work, I do have a census from Burray that puts him and his wife and first daughter in the same house as the wifes father but will have to look up the records for which one. Christina was her grandfather's sister. We also have another relation from the Work family who still lives in the family home in Hoy his name is Willie Groat. Unfortunatley Mabel does not have a computer but is very interested in the family tree. 3. Hi Dave Thank you for writing. I shall have a look through your notes. My Petrie's originated in Shetland but then moved over to the mainland. (tho we think they originated from Sutherland in the late 1500's) Interesting that you have Thomson as well, although that is my married surname. My Thomson family originate from Dunlop and Beethe (sp?) in Ayrshire and although they were a big family, I know very little of them. Some family think I am nuts trying to trace back family ! Presently, I am looking for information on two of my great grandmothers brothers - She was Margaret Petrie, b. 28 Jun 1847, Sandsting, SHI, SCT She had one sister, Barbara Petrie, b. 23 Jan 1843, Tingwall, SHI, SCT, of whom there is no knowledge. Two of her brothers: 1. Peter Petrie, b. 16 Jul 1849, Sandsting, SHI, SCT 2. William Petrie, b. Nov 1851, Sandsting, SHI, SCT A third brother, Garth Petrie, b. 9 Dec 1844, Whiteness, SHI, SCT, married Martha Aitken, b. 25 Aug 1846, Lerwick, SHI, SCT. Their children were : 1. Margaret E. A. Petrie, b. 1875, Leith, MLN, SCT 2. Garth Petrie, b. 23 Dec 1878, 88 Duke Street, Leith, MLN, SCT 3. Barbara Petrie, b. 1880, Leith, MLN, SCT 4. Martha Petrie, b. 1884, Leith, MLN, SCT I shall take a more leisurely look at your names off line and get back to you Regards Pam Thomson
