Hi all cousins, I'm still looking for a connection. While doing some digging into my genealogy pile of papers I ran across a copy of my grandfather's birth certificate. Perhaps someone will see a connection. Robert Lawson Petrie son of Joseph Petrie, a Blacksmith, and mother, Elspit Lawson, at Bankhead on the 15th day of February 1868 in the District of Newhills in the County of Aberdeen. He migrated to New Brunswick, Canada in 1873 or 1874 with his parents, grandparents, an uncles and their families. He came to Maine in his early twenties just recently having married my grandmother, Blanche Grant, daughter of Moses Grant of Kilburn, New Brunswick. Thanks all. Hi Since I last wrote to you about William Petrie, I have sent for and read a copy of the film of the Premnay OPR at the local Family History centre, the following is a transcription, (1) of the marriage of Alexander and Janet Spence, (2) the baptism of their children and (3) the marriage of William to Ann Isaac, I think that this proves that "our" William Petrie's parents were Alex and Janet Spence, the two eldest children were born at Burnend, this is the address that William mentions in the Leith Hay papers, also note the witnesses, are John & James Petrie related to the family?, William and Ann Isaac had a son John James Petrie. Whilst searching for one of my wife´s line who immigrated to Canada in 1926 I came across two PETRIE records unrelated to my wife. The first was of Charles PETRIE aged 13 nationality given as Scottish who arrived in Quebec on 23 April 1928 on the ship MELITA of the Canadian Pacific line. The other was Charles K PETRIE aged 23, nationality Scottish who arrived in Halifax,Nova Scotia on 10 March 1929 on the ship ANTONIA of the Cunard line. Karen, I don't think we have ever compared Petrie - Ferguson lines. But, if your Ferguson connection begins with a ggrandmother it might be different than mine as mine goes back to my ggg grandmother -- Mary Ann Ferguson born about 1825. Pam

Hi George ´My wife is from the Petrie line in Kinnethmont throug Anne Robertson. I have William Petrie as being born in 1768 at the Mains of Craighall, Kinnethmont. I would have to check my source for this information. I have no record of his death except that it was between before 1851. His second widow Anne Robertson died at Roadside of Law on 8 December 1862. The last time we visited Scotland before moving to Spain we had a look at the farm steadings worked by the various Petriefamilies including Roadside of Law before visiting Leith Hall. There is a large group photograph in Leith Hall showing the Laird and all the tenants etc of the estate. This was taken in the 1890s and there were still Petrie´s there. As far as the father of William Petrie is concerned all I have is that his father was William Petry or Petrie. Again I would have to check my source. I am researching the Petrie line of our family tree. We actually have 2 different Petrie families in it. On one side, I have traced back to Andrew Petrie, born between 1831 and 1840 in “Arbroath, Forfar, Scotland” according to the information on the 1881 census, and “Forfarshire, Arbroath” on the 1891 and 1901 Censuses.  I have his death record which has the following information:   Andrew Petrie, shoemaker, Journeyman, married to 1st Catherine Beattie, 2nd Sarah Perry, Age 73 years [This would make him born around 1840, although his age on the census records would put it at about 1831 or 32]. Died 1913, April 1st 6 h. 45 m. a.m. 16 Harlaw Street, Glasgow Parents: Andrew Petrie, Enginefitter (deceased), Jane Petrie (McGregor) deceased   I cannot find Andrew’s birth record or any information on his parents. His "2nd" marriage was in Antrim, Belfast, Ireland to Sarah Perry, and their first born (Robert, our ancestor), was born in Belfast, Ireland. (His marriage document from Ireland lists him as a bachelor). They then moved to the Glasgow area, and I can follow the family from 1881 onward.   The other Petrie I have is Peter Petrie, Born 1785 in King Edward, Aberdeen Married to Ann Ogilvie 31 Dec 1814 in Aberdeen.  His Parents are listed as John Petrie and Elisabeth Anderson (married 1774?), which I believe are buried in New Deer. I have found Memorial Inscriptions for both in 1825. After several generations, both Petrie lines ended up in Dundee. Line-1: John Petrie (b.?, Aberdeenshire), Peter Petrie (b.1785, Aberdeen), James Wadsworth Petrie (b.1829, Aberdeen), James Petrie (b.1852, Aberdeen), Catherine Jane Petrie (b.1872, Dundee), Andrew Collin Petrie (b.1910 Dundee or poss. The last one I heard of was called Errol Hardy but I don't know if any still survive. My grandfather spent time in Oregon in the early 20th century and we have an interesting photo of him and family members on horses with chaps and cowboy hats outsice a ranch house. John McLaren's parents were Thomas McLaren and sabell(a) Peebles. Mary Ann Petrie's parents were William Petrie and Mary Ann Ferguson. I have the marriage certificate for John McLaren and Mary Ann Petire which gives addresses and occupations, etc. They were married 2 December 1864 in Dundee, at which time her father, William Petire, was listed as being a seaman, deceased. I have also found marriage information for Thomas McLaren and Isabell(a) Peebles, and birth information for three children -- none of them John. I can go back no farther on the Petrie's than the marriage record of Mary Ann and John McLaren. I would be happy to share specifics with you.
