Hi Stephen There seem to be TWO Petrie lines from Kirkmichael. Yours is Hazel's but ours is a parallel one. If you find a link, please let us know. This is one of the Great Petrie Mysteries!!! Hi Norma: I visited you in 1999 or so, when I was in the UK with my husband who is from Dorset. You were in the middle of a massive reno, but kindly gave us tea and hospitality. I brought you a little cowboy teatowel if it jogs your memory. . . I moved from Michigan to New Mexico in 2005, and am finally getting ready to resume my genealogy, after some years spent with my parents passages and others. May I request you send me a link to access our Petrie of Scotland ( I am descended from Janet Petrie Stirling b. 30 November 1764 in Hillhead/Monikie/forfar - she was the first person in the Scots GRO records - and talked with you at one time about whether her brother Thomas (?) was part of your line.) I am glad to be able to contact you again, and hope you and yours are well and happy. Hello to all you Petries! Catherine (Stirling Gould)
Hi Norma, I was talking to Hazel from Blairgowrie and she asked me to contact you about access to the web page. I am doing the family tree and am from the Kirkmichael Petries line. Hi, My Gt.Gt Grandmother, Isabel (aka Isabella) Petrie was born 13 May 1793 in Monikie; her sister Ann was baptised 11 May 1788 in Monifieth and her brother James was born 17 April 1790 in Monikie. Their parents were William Petrie and Jannet Watson who married 14 October 1786 in Monifieth. Jannet died 10 February 1794 in Monikie. William then married Jean (aka Agnes) Burns on 23 June 1794 in Panbride. Their first child, Agnes, was born 9 April 1795 in Monikie, followed by Barbara, William, Jean, John, George, Alexander and another Agnes, all born in Arbroath. I would love to find a Petrie relative Cheers, Elva > Hi Bruce, > I have some Petries who were in Monikie and also have a few who were > married into Stewarts. Hi Jennifer I do not have any connection to Petries in Montrose, however, I am not discounting a connection as I do have early John Petries and I don't know who they married. Thanks for the info. Sometimes the big chunks of puzzle suddenly fit together as happened tracing my mothers side of the family. One birth certificate provided all the evidence for adding several generations to her line. I got rather excited at the time and, before you ask, I do have a life! Of course you may be connected to the Petries of Aberdeen shire or even Orkney & Shetland. Maybe some other Petries have some more chunks we can try to connect. Hi Jenifer The Stewart connection is after my line left Monikie and lived in Monifieth: James Mudy Petrie born in Monikie married Isabella Burns (brought up in an orphanage) on 02/12/1853. Amongst their children was William Petrie born 14/9/1869 who married Helen A Stewart on an unknown date. This is the Stewart connection. All I know about Helen is that she came from a cottage in Helensburgh, she was Stewart of Appin and there is a Paisley connection. They had 2 children I know about: Robert B born 1901& Jean. Robert is my grandfather. I have gone further back with the Petries and I think they are connected to Alexander Petrie born around 1675 in Panbride & Isobel Miln who married about 1699. I am speculating that Alexander may have had brothers Andreu & John but nothing proven yet!.
