    3. Stephen & Jennifer Hi again. We don't have any parents for thye "original" Alexander , married to Annie Robertson. If you can find them that would solve the mystery that we all have. To clarify things - our Alexander was born in 1761, He married Annie in 1786. Their children - on our list - were Alexander 1788 Elizabeth 1790 Charles 1792 James 1793 Robert 1795 Donald 1799 Annie 1801 David 1804 Andrew 1806 I hope this makes some sense. Look forward to more info!! 3. Hi David I see you're descended from George Petrie and Margaret Reid, so I guess you must be a close relative of June Porteous. June wants to get connected to the list so I'll drop off the instructions to her in the next few days. I'm descended from John Reid and Elizabeth Petrie, brother and sister married brother and sister, so we're connected through the Reids as well as the Petries. Your anscestor George was a witness at his little sister Elizabeth's wedding. It would be great to have more information about the family. 3. Hi Heather! Sorry it's taken me so long to get back to you. I have had a spell of leave lately and have spent a lot of my time visiting my family in Strathardle, Atholl and Strathmore. To answer your queries; I have several relatives named "Ardle" (I totally agree with you, it is a beautiful name). The Ardle is the name of the river that gives its name to the Strath in which Kirkmichael is situated ("strath" means "wide river valley", as opposed to "glen", which simply denotes "valley"). I am descended from John Petrie & Elizabeth Reid, and am of the (senior) line of George Petrie & Margaret Reid. Hope you're well, best wishes From: "Heather Johnson" < heatherannej@hotmail.com> Subject: Re: [PETRIE-SCOTLAND] Petrie- Kirkmichael, Strathardle, Perthshire Date: Tue, 26 Sep 2006 12:19:41 +0100 In-Reply-To: <002701c6e15b$921067a0$0201a8c0@computer> Hi there David, Are you, by any chance, descended from my Alexander line? But neverthe less, I'll get back to you with some questions when I can get my head round what to ask :-) Do you by any chance know Linda Cameron - she has a cousin (amongst others) called Ardle living in the Strathardle glen. I think that is such a cool name!! 3. Hi Stephen and others If folk are having trouble viewing your images in the 'filing cabinet', try Irfanview. It is an image viewing program that works very well for most images, and what's more it is free. 3. Hi Stephen, This is our line:- John Petrie married Elisabeth Reid John Petrie married Betsy Robertson John Petrie married Jane Forbes George Petrie married Margaret Reid James Petrie married Susan McDonald - My great grandparents I believe that the original John Petrie and Alexander Petrie of the "Other Kirkmichaels" were brothers. The dates would make this very plausible. I am hoping to get a look at the parish records soon to see if we can shed any light on it. Hazel, (we are related through the Petries and the Reids), mentioned that the Kirkmichael Session house is trying to organise a fund raising night. This is to be based on the music of Robert (Christened Robertus) Petrie , the son of John Petrie and Elisabeth Reid. He was a famous musician in his day and has composed four collections of fiddle music. We are still in the early stages of planning but will keep everyone posted with the latest information. We were in the glen this afternoon (Saturday) visiting Elma Cochrane, the grand daughter of Susan Mcdonald (above). It's an amazing place - totally beautiful. We're hoping to move our family back up there soon. 3. Hi Hazel, Got the impression that things might be on the up, up there. I watch the property market - always hopeful of a windfall. Notice Blackcraig went recently and some new self-catering cottages have been built on the site of the old Cromald ones - that's tempting for another year. Both sites having some association to me and Karen B. Isn't it lovely to see everyone coming out of the woodwork? 3. Hi Stephen & all Kirkmichael Petries I'm still lurking in the background but haven't had much time to do any research for a while and most of my files are still packed away in the barn (didn't take long to fill it up again after the ceilidh). My line starts with John Petrie & Elizabeth Reid, then John Petrie (b.1765) & Betsy Robertson, John Petrie (b.1794) & Jean Forbes, to Elizabeth Petrie (b.1839) & John Reid. Obviously the name changed after that. Elizabeth & John had a daughter Annie who married Alexander Macgregor and they had a son James Petrie Macgregor (b.1901) - my grandfather. Hope to find time to search for my files soon. Hazel South Littleton of Rattray p.s. Things are improving in Kirkmichael as the property on the main road has been, or is in the process of being, renovated. The Session House has been renovated and is used for various community activities. There are some good people up there trying to progress some regeneration for the area. 3. Hi again Daisy, Of course, could well be biased here but Strathardle is a lovely glen - if you do ever get a chance to travel it - take it!! Pay you to have independent transport and then you can stop when you fancy and take it all in :-) I've always had a lovely feeling about the place since I was a child as, every year, we had our holidays at Blairgowrie. We would often travel from Blair to Pitlochry through the glen. Since knowing my heritage, it would be nice to think that perhaps (deep down) there was an affinity. Well, I can dream :-) Heather >From: "daisy wilson" <daisy.wilson@sympatico.ca> >Reply-To: petrie-scotland@rootsweb.com >To: <petrie-scotland@rootsweb.com> >Subject: Re: [PETRIE-SCOTLAND] KIRKMICHAEL Petries >Date: Sat, 30 Sep 2006 11:00:36 -0400 > >Greetings from rainy Canada. I saved your link, Norma, and that testing email of mine came through to inbox with no trouble BUT Paula's yesterday and today ones from Daisy, Gavin and George all came through into junk. I shall just resign myself to scooping them out of junk each day and hope for the best :-) Stephen ... hope Karen is well. Hope that your eyes continue to go well, likewise your job. 3. Thanks for the first 2 replies. Please keep on sending!! Derek I know that you are part of "our" line. , but seem to have lost your details - probably as a result of our "crash" earlier this year. We have a ROBERT FORBES PETRIE, born 1886, son of Alexander & Annie. Is he the same one?? If you could find time to send me your tree as an attachment - not to the list, as this is not allowed! - I shall try to work out the link and send it back to you. Thanks Stephen Daisy Hello again Daisy We saw Kirkmichael a few years ago. A wee bit disappointing, as it rather run down now. It did have a store with an internet cafe, though!!
