Doing some long overdue cleanups and found a letter from a lady here in Australia who contacted me re the above names. She is a descendent of James BIRRELL and Helen PETRIE, their son Thomas BIRRELL was born 17 Feb 1844 at Plattsburg and was her great grandfather. As the letter is a few years old, I have looked up the name and address on our White Pages online and she is still at the same address. If she is online with us, she may speak up if not anyone wanting to contact her can email me for the address. Annette in Cowra NSW
Dear Stephen & Karen, Here is some info on the family of Alexander Petrie and Elizabeth Yeaman:- As you know, they had a daughter Robertina Margaret Yeaman Petrie, born 1877. She does not appear on any of the records after her birth and does not appear on the census information with her family from 1881 onwards. ( It's possible that she died at some point between 1877 and 1881, although I have been unable to locate a death certificate) Ok - 1891 Census shows that Alexander and Elizabeth were living at Mill Road, Rattray. They had 6 children:- Georgina aged 12 in 1891, born Blairgowrie Alexander, aged 9 in 1891, born Rattray Margaret, aged 8 in 1891, born Rattray Janet, aged 5 in 1891, born Rattray Robert, aged 3 in 1891, born Rattray John, aged 1 in 1891, born Rattray The 1901 census shows that they had another 4 children:- Elizabeth, aged 9 in 1901, born Rattray Edward, aged 8 in 1901, born Rattray Mary, aged 6 in 1901, born Rattray David, aged 4 in 1901, born Rattray Lots of things to look into there! I am still going through all the info you sent me, and will let you know when I find something else Hope you are well, Jennifer
Hi there all I hope that, by sending this through, I am not doing anything unethical but I feel that I must inform you all that a book on the 248 people who appear on this memorial is set to be printed end Nov. I have assisted with my Uncle Willie (Brodie WW2) and our two Petries and this book may be of interest to anyone else who knows that their relatives (Petrie or not) appear on this memorial. I have info on how to guarantee a copy of this LIMITED RUN as, to guarantee a copy and assist the author (as a private individual with no publishing house backing) there is a sponsorship involved. However, apart from my own family, I personally cannot tell you the other names that appear. Anyway, if the boot was on the other foot, I know that I would like to be told just in case I'd like a copy. Can send further info and copy Blairie article attachment to anyone interested so that you know all is above board. Hi Norma, Yes I am still here, but just keeping up to date, reading others messages, with a two year old my "spare" time is taken up with other things, catching up on the ironing mainly. Good to hear that Evelyns researches are going well. Evelyns mum Anne Hutton keeps me up-to-date on her progress. Evelyns Mum and my father are cousins. When i first started i was so keen and have a box of papers, copies of census records and all sorts but at the moment it is gathering stour. After watching the BBC series, Who Do You Think You Are? i have been thinking about starting my research again. But they seem to make it look easy! Bye just now. Greetings All Looking for information on William PETRIE, bn. to John PETRIE & Isabella INGLIS, on 23 May 1829, in Kettle, Fife. I have just discovered this birth, in an email to this list, back in 2000, but cannot find any details to prove it. I have found no extracted data on the Family Search web site and Norma's database has nothing either. A search of the British Isle Vital Records Index - 2nd Edition, CD's also revealed nothing. The confusing aspect about this William, is that John & Isabella already have a William, bn in 1821 and who did not die until 1891. The tree in the email also says that he is a twin to his sister Isabella. I would be grateful if someone is able to help me prove this birth, or shed some light on it, one way or the other. Hi Stephen, Jennifer may have already picked up a message from myself when there was disccussion about Linda Cameron ......... she holds this photo. She sent it through to me via the internet so that I could add it to the site. I think that Jennifer intends to meet up with Linda eventually?! I am on the same line as Karen Baker ...... Alexander born c 1760 ......... Do you hold (or know someone who does) any vintage pics of anyone on this line at all? I start having Petrie pics from the generation of his great grand-son Alexander Petrie born 14.08.1853 (of Father of the Bride fame in the recently spoken of wedding pic). His father being James born 27.11.1819/James' father being Alexander b 22.061788 - son of Alexander b c1760. By this time, the family are in Blairgowrie (although, in James' time the family had spent some time in Rattray, Blairgowrie). I do have a vintage photograph/postcard of 'The Croft' at Enochdhu though - with, I believe, the Forbes in-laws of Alexander (1853) standing outside it. This isn't the house known (I think) as 'The Croft' today - it's the delapadated looking house on the "main" road before that (going towards Moulin). I have, however, been trying to obtain/collect as many vintage postcards as I come across relating to Strathardle and Blairgowrie so I shall have to copy them and see if you are interested in them. I haven't a scanner but I am experimenting with a digital camera and having some success :-) Anyway, bye for now Heather (The Blood is STILL Strong) >From: "Jennifer Petrie" <JenniferPetrie@hotmail.com> >Reply-To: petrie-scotland@rootsweb.com >To: "petrie-scotland" <petrie-scotland@rootsweb.com> >Subject: [PETRIE-SCOTLAND] Big Jock Petrie >Date: Mon, 16 Oct 2006 03:15:17 +0100 > >Hi Heather, >I was looking through your album and see you have a photo. of John, Big >Jock Petrie. Hi Stephen & Karen, The William Petrie that Karen who sent this message is descended from is William Petrie, son of John Petrie and Margaret Leadingham, born 14th February 1974 at Craigton, Parish of Monikie. Other children of John Petrie and Margaret Leadingham are:- John Petrie, born 6 October 1866 David Petrie, born 28 March 1869 George Petrie, born 20 June 1871 Alexander Ramsay Petrie, born 23 September 1876 James Petrie, born 16 June 1879 Elizabeth Jane Forbes Petrie, born 7 February 1882 George Petrie, born 18 November 1887 I have marriage and death dates for some of the above, if you're interested. The Parents of John Petrie, ( grandparents to William) were John Petrie and Jane or Jean Forbes. I am still trying to find any links between the Forbes people who appear on both trees. This William Petrie is the same Petrie line as Hazel and ourselves - still looking for more connections! Hi Jennifer If it helps you to get your head around this ....... the James Low Petrie we've been talking about previously would have been the uncle to the James Petrie who married the infamous Helen Marshall!! James Low Petrie being a brother to Alexander Petrie (m to Annie (Forbes)) - Alex being the father of the bride in the wedding pic!
