    3. Hi Jim, I have an 1855 death certificate which will interest you... Death Certificate Ref: 1855 MURROES (313) Entry 9 (source Scottish Records Office) JOHN PETRIE Capmaker (sic) - Maker of Wooden Dishes age 78 years born Monifieth (33 years in Murroes) died 15 September 1855 at 9.00 am at Bucklerhead, Murroes Parents: DAVID PETRIE - Blacksmith JANET BATHIE Spouse: 1. MARGARET ROBERT - deceased 2. BARBARA LAIRD - deceased Issue: GEORGE deceased 1844 MARGARET age 46 AGNES deceased in 1850 Cause of Death: Anasarca consequent of Diseased Heart Buried at Churchyard of Murroes Death registered by WILLIAM CROCKET, Son-in-Law on 18 September 1855 @ Murroes ************ My database shows that John Petrie & Margaret Roberts married and had all their children in Guthrie, Angus they also had a son David...but he is not noted amongst the Issue listed above !! I have not yet found records for a couple named David Petrie & Janet Bathie but then with the early records...that's not so unusual...does anyone else know of them ?? I feel sure he must be a some sort of relative to Alexander Petrie & Jean Bathie, however I am also curious that his birthyear and place are the same as that of Alexander & Jean's son John Petrie who was also born 1779 in Monifieth ..... Cheerio the noo Norma

    1. [Petrie-Scotland] Jim Petrie (Isle of Wight) - Petrie's of Carmyllie & Murroes
    2. Norma Thain
    3. Hi Jim, I have had a good look at the Petrie's from Murroes, Angus with regard to my own Petrie tree, when I was trying to determine if Thomas Petrie who married Elspeth Lowson was perhaps a 1st Marriage of my gggg.grandfather, unfortunately I have found nothing to prove this. And I have not found anything to date yet which would help pinpoint for sure Alexander Petrie's (spouse Jean Bathie) parents. But I too associate the 3 Petrie children born to Alexander Petrie/mother unnamed as likely being that of Alexander Petrie & Jean Bathie. I have found a few "potential" marital links for their children...but they'll need to be researched further to prove them....I'll be pleased to pass them on to you if you like. Looking in the database ; I have records to date of 1 known Petrie connection with Carmyllie & Murroes, where I have Christian Petrie who was born 1776 in Murroes daughter of Henry Petrie & Margaret Elder. Christian married an Andrew Davidson (date & place of marriage unknown) she died in 1856 at The Guynd, Carmyllie, and is buried in Murroes Churchyard. On the birth of Alexander Petrie (b. 1755) at Carmyllie to John Petrie & Jean Duncan.... I am a wee bit sceptical about this IGI info.... as I find there is also a family in Carmyllie of a couple named John Petrie & Helen Duncan (m 1748). Since Alexander (b.1755 Carmyllie) is the only one of John Petrie & Jean Duncan's children to have been born in Carmyllie.... he appears the odd one out .....and it opens a question as to whether Alexander's mothers forename has been correctly recorded or transcribed...as Jean Duncan or should it in fact be Helen Duncan of Carmyllie ?? Unfortunately I do not have any marriage or death details etc yet for the other Alexander Petrie's you have listed born c 1750's. Cheerio Norma ----- Original Message ----- From: Jim Petrie <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Monday, January 15, 2001 12:40 PM Subject: [Petrie-Scotland] Petries of Carmyllie > There has been some recent mention of Carmyllie Petries and so I thought I might jump in with a query of my own about them. > I am trying to track down the parents of Alexander Petrie who married Jean Bathie on October 19th 1776. The parish register record gives no other information. > >From the IGI and the database, I have identified 4 possible birth records for this Alexander Petrie, one of whom is from Carmyllie, and who I would like to find out more about, if only to eliminate him from my research. > Given that Alexander married in 1776, I am starting with birth dates around 1750/53, on the assumption that he may have married around age 21 ( I have no death information from any source). > There is quite a detailed family tree lodged on the IGI by a Harold Petrie of London. I have tried to contact him at the address given, but with no luck. His tree shows an Alexander christened in Carmyllie on 11th May 1755 (making him 21 on the date of marriage) to John Petrie and Jean Duncan. I am starting with this lead as the names John and Alexander recur in both lines and blacksmiths also seem to be a common trade. > > My Alexander was a blacksmith in Murroes, married Jean Bathie and had confirmed children John, David and George. > > There are other Petrie offspring in Murroes at this time with a father Alexander, but mother unnamed, of Elizabeth, Helen and William. Elizabeth's baptism is a year before the wedding to Jean Bathie, so could be a child of theirs, or to a different mother or to a different family. Has anyone researched Murroes Petries? There is at least one member of the family buried there, but I have not yet had an opportunity to visit and check gravestones. > > Has anyone any information that would confirm or disprove the link to the Carmyllie Petries? > > Just out of interest, the other Alexander's I am looking at are > 1.. Alexander - christened 21/11/1756 in Maryton, by Montrose, to Alex Petrie and Elizabeth Belly > 2.. Alexander - christened 14/10/1753, at Kirkden Angus, to William Petrie > 3.. Alexander - christened 8/7/1753 at Kirriemuir to 'Jo' > Any information on any of these, if only to eliminate them would be much appreciated. > > Jim Petrie, Isle of Wight. > > > ==== PETRIE-SCOTLAND Mailing List ==== > Checkout the Petrie Querie Board & Petrie Resource Page on the WWW > http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/surnames/pet/Petrie > >

Hi Colleen, Thanks for this, if anyone follows up Mr. Rix's interests, it would be nice to find out his particular Petrie connections.... :o) As far as I am aware we do not have any of the researchers attached to June Gale's....Petrie/Birrell line on the Mailing List at the moment.. 2. Norma Thain
    3. Hi David, This is a placename problem often encountered by visitors to this area, Lunan and Lunanhead are two different places, Lunan is about 5 miles from Montrose, and is found on the coast in between Montrose & Arbroath, the area is also known as Lunan Bay.... Lunanhead however is a wee village 2 miles North East of Forfar. With a distance of approximately 12 miles between them, as I understand it, the link is that Lunanhead is the area where the Lunan Water is sourced and it flows all the way to the coast to Lunan Bay. 3. Hi Colleen Thanks for your message. Janice is a first cousin of mine - her father and my mum were siblings. We've lost track of each other over the past 10 years but I'm recently retired, back in Melbourne and starting to get back into my family history albeit slowly. Janice and I are both descended from Keith Imray Petrie and there are two other branches of his family in Australia. Descendants of Keith's younger brother David are centred in Victoria and I've only fairly recently made contact with Bruce Taylor of Brisbane who is descended from Keith's niece, Helen, daughter of his other brother, Robert Porteous Petrie. Is Janice on the Web ? In any event I'll track her down and update her with our research to date. Thanks again Allan Jones, Melbourne (PO Box 358, Glen Waverley.
