Hello Norma, Thanks for the information Charles Petrie and Hellen Dakers. I have been following the preparations for this summer's festivities with interest but will be seeing to Petrie family business on this side of the ocean at that same time by holding down the part of father of the groom and our son's wedding. I believe the "Lost" English Petrie cousins that you helped us find over the last few years are planning to attend. They aren't on the list but I have told them to e-mail you for information. I have been feeding them information as you have been distributing it to the list. Brian and Doreen (Petrie) Barry are very nice people. I hope you get to meet them personally. I plan on sending them an updated copy of everything I have on our branch of the Petrie tree just before the gathering so they can bring it along. Dave Petrie

HI Gang, I am currently working through the Petrie researchers who I correspond with via "snail mail"....to let them know about our Petrie Gathering in Dundee in August 2001 So I thought whilst I was in their files I should mention their known connections and Petrie research interests here ....in case some of you are interested in following up with them. I will try to post each of them individually as I work through them ... Here's the first one.... Mrs Agnes Majilton of Coatbridge, finds her family is descended from .... ROBERT PETRIE & AGNES NICOL whose marriage banns were read on 21 November 1818 at Chapel Garioch and Inverurie in Aberdeenshire. Other known links in this Petrie line are ISOBEL PETRIE & JAMES FRASER married 1855 at Old Machar, Aberdeen MARY PETRIE married JOHN ELLIOTT 1855 at Perth AGNES PETRIE married JAMES McGUIRE 1861 at Old Machar, Aberdeen Anyone interested in contacting Agnes Majilton, please e.mail me and I shall be pleased to pass on her full postal address. Cheerio Norma

Dear John, Unfortunately we cannot find any connection as yet! The Euphemia and David Petrie(sister and brother) who lived at "Graemeshall" were the children of David Petrie(Snr)and Ann Pottinger who together had ten children - Ann,Patrick,Euphemia,David,Archibald,Margaret,Janet,Barbara,Peter and Samuel born between 1783 and 1801. Maybe your Archibald could be a descendant of a brother of the David Petrie(Senior) generation? Makes life interesting doesn't it? Hi John Roy and Marjorie, This entry was for Barbara PETRIE(not Pettrie) C: 28 Jan. 1796 , and lists mother and father as David Petrie and Anne Pottinger. All were on the same list, yet all but this one had the spelling as Pettrie. Bill
oops! That subject line is supposed to be Pettrie not PETTIRE! SORRY, Bill

I got a pile of paperwork in the mail from a lady in New York. It talks about a James Petrie born, May 15, 1819 in Orkney, Scotland, the 6th of 10 children, son of Robert Petrie, who married Jessie Guthrie, of Kirkwell, Scotland in 1845. He moved to New York on June 2, 1847. I have some more info on this James if he belongs to anyone. Janine
Hello Roy and Marjory. Thank you very much for your interest in my research and your thoughtfulness in passing along the information. Recently, Norma and Janine provided marriage data about my Jane Shearer, Holm and Paplay, Orkney, that indicates that the Archibald Petrie she married was the son of John Petrie and Jannet Foubister, St. Andrews, Orkney. That Archibald Petrie's siblings were John, Peter, Euphinia, David, James, and Janet. Now, I am curious about the connection, if any, between the two Petrie families! Thanks again. Hello everybody, My name is Lena Sturdy and I was introduced to your site by Katherine Blake via Aberdeen rootsweb. I'm researching my husband's family. His grandmother was Robina Helen Rust Born 10 June 1846 in Old Machar, Aberdeen daughter of Williamson Rust and Margaret Erskine. Williamson Rust (1803) was the son of James Rust and Margaret Petrie. I have the date of their marriage as 28/29 July 1799. I would like to know about James' parents. I think his father could have been an Alexander Rust. Robina died at Market Weighton 15.12.1895. I would also like to know more about Robina's grandmother Margaret Petrie. Any information you would like about Robina's family - just ask and I'll do my best. Thank you Norma for such a warm welcome.

G'day John Shearer, Norma and Janine. Just last week we accessed the census for Holm and Paplay taken on 31March1851 and the first entry was:- Household - Graemeshall - Petrie,David -Head-Age 62-Farmer of 57 Acres & Factor. Petrie, Euphemia - sister -64 - Invalid. There were sixteen people listed for this household, one being Petrie, Archibald - servant - unmarried - 22- man of all works on farm. Also in this household was Petrie,Mary - servant -unmarried-19-housemaid (perhaps Archibald's sister?) Two entries down under the household name Cote of East Greaves was Shearer, Margaret, Head, Wife,38,Glover (Occupation) and Shearer, Jane, daughter, unmarried, 15. We only photocopied this one page so there could have been siblings,if you would like us to, we will check next time,it appears Jane's father was deceased, anyway it looks like your family John. Hope this helps - Roy and Marjory in Brisbane, Australia where, thank the Lord, the weather has been a little cooler. _________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com.
G'day Everyone - Thankyou to everyone who is contributing to the Gathering - it will be a marvellous week-end. May we ask if at some time during the proceedings there could be a toast to absent friends or, in the case of the Petries, absent families? Guess you have already planned on this but thought we would mention it. Regards to all from Roy and Marjory in Brisbane. _________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com.
Hello everyone, Here is an update on our Petrie of Scotland Gathering which is being held in Dundee 10 - 13th August (inclusive) 2001. Since posting the "Gathering Attendance" form in January, I am pleased to say I have to date received 52 definite attendees from this list (including partners) 20 are from Overseas .... and everyone has indicated that they will be displaying their Petrie family tree's, along with pix and any other Petrie memorabilia if they have them. I am hoping some folks who are planning to attend but have not yet sent in their attendance forms to me, will do so soon, I suspect it may have been filed away for nearer the date, but we really need to work toward final numbers particularly for the Civic Reception and Ceilidh, so anyone planning to attend who has not yet sent in their attendance form, I would much appreciate if they could do so by 31 March. I am also about to start sending details of the Gathering to the Petrie researchers I correspond with via "snail mail" so no doubt a few of them will be joining us too !! :o) Jim Petrie (Isle of Wight) from this list, has very kindly created a Logo for our Gathering, it is excellent, finishing touches are being made to the draft, and it will be made available for you to download and use on any of your printed family items you are bringing along with you if you wish. Stephen Baker from this list, has very kindly created the Visitors - Petrie Family Information sheet which we will be handing out to the Petrie public who come along to join us at the Gathering on the day !! :o) With this they can note down their name & address & known Petrie details without us having to resort to a chair & lightbulb interrogation on them in the corner of the hall !! :o) Every effort will be made on the day to help them locate their Petrie line using the family display's, database, census info etc ..... fingers crossed some of us might find new distant cousins on the day. Any Petrie lines that we cannot follow up on, their details will be kept for researching and contacting at a later date.... List Member Patricia Taggart, is in the business of creating Mouse Pads, and has very kindly created a lovely one specifically to commemorate our Gathering.... it's a great idea and they are very reasonably priced, anyone interested can view and order it from her at her website at http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~patricia/MousePads.htm List members Clare & Murray Nicol, are very kindly organising the Tay Valley Family History Societies display for us at the Gathering, http://www.tayvalleyfhs.org.uk/ I am also pleased to say that I have recently received word from the City of Dundee Archives that they will be setting up a display at the Gathering http://www.dundeecity.gov.uk/dcchtml/sservices/archives.html Along with the Dundee Registrars Genealogy Unit..... http://www.dundeecity.gov.uk/dcchtml/sservices/genealogy.html so with all these experts joining us at the Gathering, it should be an informative day for everyone !! I have been asked by some if we would like the Petrie Gathering at the Marryat Hall, Dundee advertised in the journals and offices of Family History Societies where some of you are members.... the answer is YES please !!! :o) Please contact me for further details.... We will also shortly have an A4 size poster available for downloading and posting when and where you feel it might be appropriate. As I mentioned in a message on the website recently, I have contacted a local bus company to look at costs for hiring buses to take us to the Ceilidh on the Saturday night, and return dropping off at appropriate points and also for the trip to SRO & Tattoo in Edinburgh. Bus Hire costs depend on the numbers involved and size of bus used, so we will look at whether there is a demand for this and detail costs involved per head, once the final numbers have been established. I trust those attending are managing to organise their accommodation through the Dundee & Angus Tourist board at http://www.angusanddundee.co.uk/intro.htm or the variety of accommodation website addresses which have been posted to our Petrie-Scotland website. Please send a message to the News section of the website, if you are needing further information or wish to discuss further with others who are attending etc. and perhaps those who have already booked their accommodation could post the details of the place they are staying at, to let the others know. Hazel Harris Garside recently posted details to the list updating us on the Ceilidh, and many thanks go to her for organising this for us. Anyone with a talent for singing, dancing or playing an instrument, please let us know, we would love you to do a turn at the Ceilidh !! :o) That's it for now.... anyone needing an Attendance Form, please contact me and I'll be pleased to send one on.... Cheerio the noo Norma [email protected]
