Hi Peggy, I am so pleased to have received your message here on the List, and to be able to tell everyone that ... we are of the same Petrie line !!! :o) Along with our 5th Cousin Jim Barclay (also on the list) we now number 3 researchers here on the list who are descended from this particular Petrie line.... Just to let everyone know where we all descend from Alexander Petrie & Mary Malcolm's children..... Jim is descended from Janet Petrie (b.1828 at Panbride, Angus) married Peter Barclay in 1854 @ Arbroath Peggy is descended from Thomas Petrie (b.1833 at Barry, Angus) married Jane Parker in 1866 And I am from their brother William (b.1842 at Barry, Angus).... he is my great great grandfather. William married Elizabeth Fleming in 1867 in Dundee, they had three children but only 1 survived beyond infancy, and then Elizabeth died aged only 28. William then went on to marry his 1st cousin Isabella Malcolm, I am descended from this marriage, so end up related to myself through both the Petrie & Malcolm lines. Peggy have you noticed the Thain connection in our Petrie family tree back in 1813 when our Alexander Petrie's brother John Petrie (b.1792 Monikie) married Agnes Thain at Eassie & Nevay....Agnes Thain was sister of my husband Davie's gggg grandfather !! :o) I spotted that you have Jane Parker noted as "Maggie Jane Parker" I have never seen her listed as such before, can you confirm ?? I wonder if you have her Date of Birth...?? I know from census info she was born around 1847 at Johnstone, Dumfries, but have yet to find anything further on her birth. You have Mary Malcolm d.1833. I have her death cert from 1883, can I assume this is just a typo error... :o) So pleased you enjoy the list Peggy, and your help in promoting our Petrie tree here is very much appreciated .... with the best intentions, it's something I seldom seem to get around to !! :o) Cheerio the noo Norma :o) ----- Original Message ----- From: " Peggy Lock" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Sunday, June 17, 2001 5:44 PM Subject: [Petrie-Scotland] Hello > Hi: My name is Peggy Petrie Lock. My maternal grandmother was Beatrice Petrie, born (or registered) at Edinburgh, 24 June 1871. Her parents were John Petrie and Beatrice Buchan, married at Old Machar, Aberdeen, 8 June, 1866. Does anyone relate to any of these people? Or did they maybe arrive unannounced from another planet at this time? It would seem the latter as no prior record of them seems to exist. -- Eloise Jackson __________________________________________________________________ Get your own FREE, personal Netscape Webmail account today at http://webmail.netscape.com/

Hi there, I am Bill Petrie, living in England, born in Banffshire, regret no relative of yours, my brother lives in Broughty ferry and I just had to say that you live in one of the most delightful areas of Canada. We visit Canada quite a bit and have been to Banff, Jasper and around several times in the last few years. We have family (Petries) in Saskatchewan and in Ontario nr Toronto and visited the latter last September. We do hope that you locate your branch of today's Petries. Maybe someone will connect at the forthcoming re-union in Dundee. Regards Bill Petrie

I was so excited to receive the above transcriptions from Drew, that in my haste to share some of the names that had come up on the list recently, I clean forgot to give credit (copyright) to Drew, who has done a magnificent job. He also went to a lot of trouble to copy and paste the information in several e-mails because I could not seem to get the hang of opening the downloaded information. Drew, I humbly apologise for my oversight. Annette in Dubbo NSW
Hi yon Petries -- Elizabeth Skinner Petrie, born 1896, passed on last Friday just five weeks before her one hundred and fifth birthday. Was she the oldest Petrie with us? She had a wonderful life, though difficult after she, husband John and son (that's me) arrived in Melbourne in 1924 via s.s. 'Barrabool". She gave much time to community service and her Church and her Thanksgiving Service, held yesterday, was a joyous celebration rather than a funereal gathering. Don't look for her resting place - she willed her body to the University of Melbourne medical Research Dept. As we said, "Fancy waiting till you are 104 years old before going to the University" No sadness, just thankfulness -- Cherrs, Jack
Hi all: Happened to be reading an "old newspaper" web page and came across the following: River death May 1741: Woman swept to her death: Isabel Petrie, who lived in Brechin, was drowned on the 24th while attempting to gather dilse at the mouth of the River Southesk. Don't know if it's of interest to anyone. Margaret Morgan

Hello Fred, Many thanks for passing on the information relating to Joseph and Isobel Petrie. I found it all most interesting - a few more pieces of the puzzle completed! I noted that Joseph Petrie died at 6 Ferry St, Montrose, the very same address given on the death certificate of Mary Addison, just 10 years later. (Mary is on another line of my husband's family). I am now more than ever convinced that the two Addison families are connected. I guess only future research will tell. If you come across any further information on Andrew Petrie/Elizabeth Addison, I would be grateful if you could contact me. Likewise, I will be in touch if I have a similar breakthrough. Thanks once again. Best of luck with your research. HUMOR =========================================== * Any family tree produces some lemons, some nuts and a few bad apples. * Can a first cousin once removed...RETURN? * Genealogists live in the past lane. * Snobs talk as if they have begotten their own ancestors! * I looked into my family tree and found out I was a sap. * It's an unusual family that hath neither a lady of the evening or thief. * Many a family tree needs pruning. * A non-productive research trip: a "Bad Heir Day."
Karen, Have received your tree and Gedcom files. Despite downloading some family tree software, I am still unable to open your tree file. The Gedcom file opens OK, but is not visually interesting. The tree file is a .DAT file. Can anyone tell me what software might be available that would accept or convert this? Karen, can you save the tree in any other format? Jim Petrie

Oops! Don't think 2nd entry I posted will be a Kirkmichael PETRIE. Anyone know where Ballo is? Hazel
Hi, There's a Ballo reservoir in Fife Regional Park south-east of Perth. Bill Taylor
Hi Kirkmichael Cousins I found these two entries in a booklet in my local Family History Centre and thought they might be useful.
