    3. Hi to all the gatherers I thought I would send some info on how to get to South Littleton on 11th August for anyone making their own way. If you use the Ordnance Survey site www.ordnancesurvey.co.uk , then go to "getamap", use the postcode PH10 7HF for the search. Click on the pink dot to zoom in and this will then give a map with North Littleton highlighted. South Littleton of Rattray is South East of this, across the main road. If travelling from Blairgowrie on the road to Alyth, the entrance is on the right-hand side just after the signs (on the left-hand side) for "No overtaking on blind crests" and the Pondfaulds Holiday Cottages. There's a green sign at the road-end with the name of the farm. The Automobile Association has a route planner on it's site at www.theaa.com . See you soon Hazel

    1. [Petrie-Scotland] re absence.
    2. daisy wilson
    3. Greetings from very warm Canada. We are having temperatures in the low 30's, that's Celsius. I received a message from the Petrie web site saying that I have been absent for a long time so I am checking in . I'm still here and busy. I really have no more information about the Petrie- MacGregor line . I thought I had made a connection with the MacGregor -Barker line but that failed. I have been putting together a family cookbook showing the relationship of the people who offered recipes. So now when we cook we can follow our family tree. Also this winter I compiled a book of the poems written by one of my sisters. She is 90 and still going strong. She was invited to a school where one of her great granddaughters recited one of her poems for the class. That was a thrill for her. I am sorry to say I will not be at the Petrie reunion. I was hoping to go to Scotland with a friend in August . I was going to take her to the reunion and she was going to take me to a castle which is connected in some way to her family . ( I don't think my Petrie-MacGregor line can boast of a castle. ) BUT there is an Elderhostel trip at the same time as the reunion and it is a trip I have been wanting to take so much. So while you are enjoying the reunion look north and west to the Faroe Islands and wave to me. Maybe next summer I'll get back to Scotland once again. Best Wishes for a very successful reunion. 1. [Petrie-Scotland] A PETRIE Enquiry
    2. Isabel Petrie
    3. Hello ALL: My name is DAVID WINDSOR PETRIE, born July 25th 1936,living at 51 Dorge Drive,Winnipeg,Manitoba,Canada, Postal code R3V1M3. As I have very little information on my Fathers side of the family,I would be interested in getting any information that I can,or especially finding the where about, addresses E-Mail or otherwise of any other living relatives who may wish to correspond. Most living relatives I believe reside somewhere in Scotland,( Aberdeen and Edinburgh ??? ) Anyway here is about all I know of my Father's side of the clan. Name - _ Thomas PETRIE, born April 2nd,1889,7/15 P.M. 27 North Castle,Sheet Banff,Scotland. His Father was William PETRIE and Mother Ellen PRINCE,who were married October 21st,1887, in Aberdeen Scotland. Prior to coming to Canada my Father Thomas had joined the British Army,Regimental # 8166 , serving with The Queen's Own Cameron Highlanders. He saw service in India, and was wounded in both legs during the 1st W.War. He came first to Canada on an Embarkation Pass issued 21/8/20 for Halifax or Quebec here in Canada. In October 1922 he was living at 98 MCaul Street,Toronto ,Ontario Canada. Around this time he immigrated to New York City, where he had two sisters. In 1924 he married my Mother Mary Elizabeth BOURQUE of Neelin ,Manitoba,Canada. Then in 1928 they immigrated to the Neelin Manitoba area where they farmed until his death from his war wound complications in April of l951.On coming from New York City,U.S.A.,they brought my Older Brother William and Sister Mary with them, myself and my younger sister Gladys were born here in Canada. To my limited knowledge,my father Thomas, was the oldest in the family,he had a sister ISABELLA, who married GEORGE FORBES,they immigrated to New York,USA,and later returned to Aberdeen sometime after 1928,they had two sons,George and Joseph, she passed away I believe in July 18th,1961. He also had a Brother James PETRIE,of Aberdeen who passed away , December 8th,1960,his children were Ann GREEN,Jeannie McKENZIE,Peggy LOBBAN,Mary GRAY,Alex PETRIE, Ella COYLE, John PETRIE,James PETRIE Jr. and Helen FORMAN,all I believe living in Scotland. There was also another sister Elizabeth who immigrated to New York USA,where she married Charles WILKINS,the youngest a brother Walter Prince PETRIE had also immigrated to New York USA,where he lived until his passing in 1959.He I understand had made numerous returns to Scotland to visit with relatives.. Well that's about all the information I have, but would be very Grateful for anything further or corrections that anyone can add for me. Also I would be very Happy to learn of or hear of or from ANYONE who may be related or have known my relatives, either by E-Mail ,or by Post. During the second war my Brother William was fortunate enough to have visited with the FORBES,in Aberdeen. Thanking ALL in advance I remain David PETRIE at [email protected]

My great-grandfather - John Petrie - was either born or christened January 5, 1840 - Arbuthnot, Kincardine - parents William Petrie and Rosanna Tavendel Petrie. I never knew my grandmother had sisters - it always seemed (with her dying young) that she was the only one. Did her sisters go with her to Manchester? Beatrice Buchan Petrie it seems was either born or christened 12 December 1830 at Chapel of Garioch (Aberdeen), to John Buchan and Margaret Mathieson Buchan. -- Eloise Jackson __________________________________________________________________ Get your own FREE, personal Netscape Webmail account today at http://webmail.netscape.com/

    2. Allan Jones
    3. Just a wee note to point out Sir William Matthew Flinders Petrie's Australian connection. His mother, Ann who married William Petrie, was the daughter of Capt Matthew Flinders was a Royal Navy navigator who came to Australia in 1795 and charted much of the Australian coastline. In 1802 he sailed from Port Jackson (Sydney) and returned almost a year later after navigating our huge continent. What courage those early sailors had ! He is still considered a hero here today and most Australian school children grew up learning of his exploits, particularly one episode of his navigation efforts in a tiny, tiny craft appropriately named "Tom Thumb". While returning to England in 1803, he was interned by French authorities at Mauritius until 1810. His book "Voyage to Terra Australis" appeared on the day of his death on July 19, 1814. Having said this, I don't know anything about the William Petrie who married his daughter.
