    1. [Petrie-Scotland] John & Alexander search
    2. Hazel Harris Garside
    3. Hi Norma While trying to get my PETRIE info into some kind of order and updated the following marriage caught my eye - Hellen Petrie c.30 Sep 1801 (parents John Petrie & Betsy Robertson) to Donald Petrie b.3 Jan 1799 (parents Alexander Petrie & Annie Robertson) on 8 May 1825. If I have the correct Hellen and Donald, then John and Alexander are not likely to be brothers as that would make H & D 1st cousins. But, if John and Alexander were cousins then H & D would be 2nd cousins. Could you check the marriage for me and see if anything is mentioned. Thanks Hazel

    2. Bill Waddingham
    3. Saw your message re the Petrie Gathering. We too are unable to attend due to distance and $$$, as we are in Sydney Australia. We are particularly interested in your reference to the FIFE Petries. Our Petrie line is also from Fife: Our earliest known event is the marriage of Robert Petrie and Christian Scott on 6th May 1763 at Collessie, and they had Robert b. 1763, Catherine b. 1765, David, 1767, James b. about 1767, Cecil b. 1773 and George b. 1782. James married Rachel Shields/Sheils/Shield in 1804 at Dysart, and they had William b. 1816 David b. 1818, and George Septimus b. 1821. The George Septimus makes us think there were other children but we have not to date found them. They appeared to be in the Dysart Pathhead area. George Septimus married Crawford Henderson and they had three children in Kirkcaldy before they migrated to Melbourne Australia in 1853. Do our Fife Petries coincide at all with yours, as we are currently orphans in the Petrie Group. We have sent an outline of our Petrie family to Norma for the Gathering, so you might see it later if it interests you. 2. Norma Thain
    3. PETRIE of SCOTLAND GATHERING LATE NEWS :: I'll be posting this at the Gathering too, as many are already on their way..... :o) Delighted to let you know Tay Valley Family History Society have invited our Petrie Gathering participants for a private visit to use their Research Centre facilities on Sunday 14 August between 1pm and 4 pm, for those interested contact Murray & Clare Nicoll on Saturday morning in the Marryat Hall. Dundee Courier & Advertiser, which covers the Tayside area, ran an article in their newspaper on our Petrie Gathering yesterday..... the response has been wonderful, and my phone has been ringing constantly since with Petrie's planning to come and join us at our Public event..... call of the day was from Peggy Petrie age 86 ...she says she is "so excited to come along, she just can't wait to get there" she says "I knew every Petrie in Arbroath, 'cos it used to be just a wee place and we were all related....!!!" I for one am really looking forward to meeting Peggy !! :o) Edinburgh Dinner - Chef at Crowne Plaza has suggested since we have such a large number taking over his restaurant on Monday evening..... and to ensure he can serve our party within our time schedule for getting to the Tattoo, that we could have a Hot Buffet instead.... So on further negotiation !! :o) We will now have the "full selection" of choices from the original 3 course Table'Dhote menu ....available as a Hot Buffet, Chef will replenish the buffet throughout, so we can eat as much as we like.... we met half way with a new price of £12.50 per person. Just heard the Tall Ships participating in the Cutty Sark Race sail into Dundee 10th August 2001 and dock for 5 days......(must've knew we were coming :o) they will take to the water in full sail for a Sail Parade on Tuesday 14th.... Cheerio the noo Norma

    2. George Robb
    3. Hi all, We just wish to take this opportunity of wishing you all a very happy gathering. We are just sorry that we cannot make it. Perhaps there may be further gatherings which we would love to attend. It is marvellous, the effort being made by you all to get there. A special note of thanks to Norma for the inception and organisation of the event. May we wish you all every success in your genealogical quests and hope that you all meet and make new friends. A safe journey to you all. Let's hope the weather is kind to you. Knowing Scottish hospitality, it is our guess, that a few tears will be shed at the end of the gathering. After all, we are all Jock Tamson's bairns. Once again, our heartfelt best wishes to you all. Rosemary (Petrie) and George Robb

    2. Karen Hutten
    3. For those of you who may be having trouble reading the Researchers List I posted to the web site File Cabinet, I have found a possible solution. There are 3 free downloads from Microsoft which will enable you to read the Works file in your Word program. Go to http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/search.asp? and choose the one you need: Works 2000 Converter for Word 2000 users Works 2000 Converter for Word 97 users Works 6.0 Converter for Works and Word users Once downloaded and installed to your hard drive, the Works file will automatically convert to Word and you'll be able to read it. Note that these downloads give you "read only" capability. You won't be able to create anything in Works. Hope this Works! :-) Karen

    2. I am doing well, I am not even a week late :o)) First a belated birthday best wishes to Norma. And to all going to the gathering, have a great time. I think my son has finally realised his choice of wedding date has not gone down too well. Re the subject, can anyone give me any information on the 'St Andrews Immigration Society', or point me in the direction of information on it. Hundreds of families arrived in Tasmania under their auspices, including my ggparents in 1855. Thanks Denis Cheers from [email protected] THE TOP END OF DOWN UNDER HUMPTY DOO NT AUSTRALIA
