    3. Dear Clare and Murray, Possibly. I have Tosh relatives from Glamis and my Alexanders are females who married into the Tosh and related male lines. However, I have no idea of any connections as I do not know where any of my Alexanders came from. Mine are: Ann who married Alexander Duers (links to Tosh, 7C, 3R) David who married Emily Mackintosh (links later to Mowat through daughter Rose Ena) Lois Joline married Harry Joseph Herbert (10C) Margaret married John Pitbladdo (eventually links to my Ramsay line) Margaret Tait married John William Gray (2C, 3R - Tosh relative) Mary married James Tosh (5C, 2R) Rose Ena married Alexander Mowat (kith through Hebenton line) Thank you. I have copied this to the Petrie list in case any of the above are recognised by Robert, Bruce or other relatives looking at Petrie. Best wishes, Ian ----- Original Message ----- From: "Clare & Murray Nicoll" <[email protected]> To: "Ian Gammage" <[email protected]> Sent: Tuesday, August 07, 2001 8:28 PM Subject: Re: [Petrie-Scotland] Glamis Inscription > Hi Ian > > The Glamis ALEXANDERS were claimed by Robert Petrie in New Zealand and his > cousin Bruce in America as being of their direct line back. > > Is this any help? > > ----- Original Message ----- > From: Ian Gammage <[email protected]> > To: Clare & Murray Nicoll <[email protected]> > Sent: Monday, August 06, 2001 4:31 AM > Subject: Re: [Petrie-Scotland] Glamis Inscription > > > >

    1. [Petrie-Scotland] Wedding
    2. Derek Heath
    3. Hello everyone, The latest wedding of a PETRIE descendent took place in Oxford, England, last Saturday 4th August 2001 when my daughter Roz (Rosemary) Heath (great grand-daughter of Jessie PETRIE 1864 - 1930 Rhynie, Aberdeenshire) married Jeremy Brown. It was my pleasure to walk her up the Aisle and I have put a "beauty and the beast" photo on the PETRIE website. GENEALOGICAL NOTE Sometimes we researchers have difficulty in tracing a marriage, or knowing exactly when and where someone was married. Roz and Jerry's experiences may give you an insight into the difficulties which can arise, as they were married 3 times in 2 weeks. FIRSTLY On 19th July 2001 (the 50th anniversary of my retirement from the Royal Air Force !!!) Roz and Jerry submitted and registered the documents for their marriage in Johannesburg, South Africa. This made their marriage legal. SECONDLY On 20th July 2001 Roz and Jerry had a Civil Wedding ceremony in Johannesburg, South Africa. This was of sufficient interest to be reported in a National newspaper - Johannesburg Saturday Star - as a news item. Jerry was so busy at work that he just nipped out during the office tea break to get married ! THIRDLY On 4th August 2001 Roz and Jerry had their marriage Blessed at a religious ceremony in Oxford, England. The service, a Blessing, was almost identical to a wedding. I walked her up the Aisle, gave her away, their hands were joined, rings were blessed and exchanged, vows were exchanged and they were pronounced Man and Wife. BUT - because it was not a wedding - there were no Banns, Register or Certificate. So, next time that you have trouble finding evidence of a wedding ............... just think how you would go about researching this one ! 3. Hi Norma & Heather Further to my e-mail about Donald & Helen, I've found the following info - Marriage Certificate Ref: 1869 KIRKMICHAEL 370/1 Entry No. 2 (source Scottish Record Office) On the second day of July at Tonloid ? (after Banns of Church of Scotland) JAMES PETRIE age 40 shoemaker (Master) of Wester Dunidea, Kirkmichael Bachelor Parents: GEORGE PETRIE - Landed Proprietor ELSPETH McNAB ANN PETRIE age 33 Dressmaker of Tonloid?, Kirkmichael Spinster Parents: DONALD PETRIE - Farmer (deceased) HELEN PETRIE witnesses - ROBERT PETRIE (James' brother?) and AMELIA PETRIE (Ann's sister Emily?) As 2 of the parents, George and Helen, are brother and sister (their parents being JOHN PETRIE & BETSY ROBERTSON), James and Ann must be 1st cousins. Hope this isn't too confusing. I wouldn't even attemp to draw a family tree for this lot. Hazel

    3. Hi Gang! Back from lurking, first I wanted to say to Clare & Murray how incredibly grateful I am for your efforts re: the photographs of the gravestone of my ancestors. And by the way, is it Clare that is a direct descendant of the Alexander Petrie that married Mary Craig? If not, please tell me the connection in your next post. Also, to all heading for the grand reunion or who are already there, may God add his richest blessing to your time there. I look forward to the time when I can come and bring my family. Also, hi to cousin Robert in NZ. You have GOT to see the photos of the gravestone that Murray has been so gracious to share. God Bless All, Bruce Petrie Danville, KY USA

    1. [Petrie-Scotland] Last minute offer....
    2. Norma Thain
    3. Hi Gang, Well things are getting busy here, and I am working through my own research information to take to the Gathering..... Public response has been wonderful and the phone has been ringing constantly ever since. So it looks like the idea to invite the Petrie public to our Gathering is going to prove very fruitful.... and I am sure they will enjoy the many family displays our attending members will be creating.... Unfortunately I had a poor response to our offer for those "not attending" to send on their Petrie family info for display, with only 5 family reports received.... they will of course be posted in a prominent position at the Gathering. However I have just had word from Murray Nicoll that he has 7 vertical display boards which he can lend us, so as a last minute offer....I'd be happy to post 1 x A4 sheet of Petrie family information on the boards for anyone not attending the Gathering. Please give it a bold Headline (ie. William Petrie born Creiff 1888 or Petrie's of Perthshire etc) with a list thereafter of the family information you wish show .... (if you have the facility try to highlight all names on the sheet in Bold type.....) do remember to include submitters Name & Address, and any other contact details you wish at the bottom. It can be information on just one Petrie family or many....so long as it fits on one A4 sheet. Where possible send it as an attachment...to me at [email protected] Cheerio the noo Norma
