    3. Hello Everyone! Although I haven't found much on my Petrie family in Scotland (believed to have come from Inverness). I discovered on a marriage certificate that when Elizabeth (Petrie) Brown's son married in Dundas, Ontario, one of the witnesses was John B. Petrie. This might have been a uncle or cousin that came from Scotland. I'd assume whomever it was would have stayed in Canada or even the Untied States. Does anyone have a John Petrie in their family in Canada or the U.S.? I did find these listings for John Petrie in Cemeteries listings in the location of where the marriage took place but I'll look for more listings later. 2. Jim Petrie
    3. George, I have a Samuel Petrie, born 1851, at Careston near Brechin, but think it unlikely that this is the one you are looking for. Although young, single men moved around from farm to farm, it is unlikely that they would move that far, unless it was to a relatives' farm. The difference in DOB is also more than you would expect. Samuel (Burgess) Petrie's parent were, however, Robert Petrie and Marjory Robertson - could she be a sister of Ann? Marjory is given as born Arbroath around 1811 to Robert Robertson and Marjory Justice, so again unlikely. Jim Petrie, Isle of Wight. ----- Original Message ----- From: "George N Henderson" <henderson57@paradise.net.nz> To: <PETRIE-SCOTLAND-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, April 27, 2005 9:49 PM Subject: [Petrie-Scotland] 1871 census Rayne > Hi all > this is a copy of the part of the 1871 census for Rayne Aberdeenshire, all > of the 1871 census is now now online at scotlands people, and also > Edinburgh. > 1871 census Rayne > > at Oxenloan > > George Durno Head married age 70 Farmer of 120 acres Arable, employing 1 > labourer and 1 boy > > born Rayne > > Ann wife married age 60 born Rayne > > William son unmarried age 32 Farmers son born Rayne > > Isabella daughter unmarried age 30 Farmers daughter born Rayne > > Charles son unmarried age 20 Farmers son born Rayne > > Ann D Law Grand daughter age 6 Scholar born Rayne > > John Sangster boarder unmarried age 32 Shepherd born Chapel of Garioch > > Jean Mackie servant married age 25 General servant domestic born Cairnie > > Samuel Petrie servant unmarried age 15 Farm servant born Kennethmont > > NOTE Ann Durno is Ann PETRIE actually born Kennethmont, daughter of > William PETRIE and Ann ROBERTSON > has anyone any idea who Samuel PETRIE's parents were? > > Regards > George Henderson > > > ==== PETRIE-SCOTLAND Mailing List ==== > If you need to Unsubscribe from this list please send an e.mail to our > utility address at Petrie-Scotland-L-request@rootsweb.com and type the > one word unsubscribe in the message box. 2. Wilma: Thank you so much for your note telling us of Norma's condition. It is very good to learn that she is well and will once again be joining us online one day. She has been a godsend to the Petrie list here on the Internet. Just for myself, I can tell you that she found Petrie ancestors of mine that I would never have uncovered. I met her in person in Arbroath and she spent an afternoon with me at the library there looking at Old Parish Records and other information about my grandparents and great grandparents. She is a special person. Please give her my very best regards when you see her. 1. RE: [Petrie-Scotland] Petrie Connections
    2. Brial
    3. Hi Evelyn, I have William's and George's in my Petrie line also. What I have so far is: William PETRIE was married in Banchory Devenick Kincardineshire in 1778 to Isobel Davidson. They had the following children: George (c 1779 Banchory Devenick); John (c 1781 Monymusk); William (c 1783 Monymusk - 1856 Badentoy); James (c 1785 Alford - 1856 buried Tarves); Alexander (c 1788 Kintore)& Catherine (b 1792 Kintore - 1860 Aberdeen). William PETRIE was a meal miller. I have no idea as to who his parents were or where or when he was born. I am looking forward to the Scottish Burial Indexes being released so that perhaps I can get a few more leads. I believe that he was still alive in 1817 when his daughter Catherine (my 3 x great grandmother) married - at that time he was a `Miller in Aberdeen'. I do not know if they actually mean Aberdeen or Aberdeenshire. With his first son being called George, I would assume that Williams father was also a George - if the family followed the Scottish naming pattern. I look forward to hearing from you. 3. Alistair, There are two Anne Nicholl's married to Petries in my line and verified by Norma Thain. One matches the couple mentioned by Ian, but the other is nearer your date. The other Anne Nicholl married a William Petrie in1834 and had a son David, born 1836. She is my GGGM. Is this any help?
