I think (without seeing it) that I may be descended from either a brother or the father of your original John Petrie. The earliest that most people have been able to identify our line is Alexander and Anne Petrie (I think born Roberts or Robertson) I don't have my documents to hand. You could simply cut and paste this Family tree Word Document into an email and send it to the group. There are definitely people in the group who could comment helpfully Hope that helps Derek

    3. Depending how far back you are , the best sites are the Petrie website containing the files for the Petrie`s, the IGI index at familysearch.org, Scotlandpeople wich you pay for but it does have the 1871, , 1891 1901census. and also the Freecen.com for the 1841 census for Scotland and the Moray index (sorry but cant find the addy for that one). If you have family from Peterhead try their site. Hope these help a little, but do post your other names, never know they may connect to other Petrie researchers. I have no idea at present where the name Brown comes into this family. Andrews parents were William Petrie and May Mitchell and they were married in Ceres Fife in 1834. Regards Evelyn Brown
