Hello to all. Christmas Greetings to everyone from snowy Canada. I've been very busy and haven't done anything about my family history for some time but I was in Scotland this past summer and had a wonderful tour by ship of the islands of England, Ireland and Scotland. We were following The Realm of the Celts. I saw so much beauty in my Grandmother's homeland. Happy New Year. Hi Gavin The list has been so quiet for such a long while that I had presumed I had unsubscribed and forgot about it! If I remember correctly, our 4 x Great Grandfathers were brothers - would have to get the file out to check this think I'm on the right track? I have 'found' another cousin from my Mackenzie/Murray family from Sutherland. Elaine lives in NZ and if you look at us, we look like sisters and we have so much in common it is unreal. I've not had any further luck with my Petrie line. Have you? Hello Evelyn I have about 20 MELVILLE folk in my tree, but they are mostly from different families. With regard to my PETRIE's they mostly come from Fife. My 5 x grt grandfather William PETRIE married a Margaret WILKIE, his 2nd wife. Unfortunately I have no confirmed details on her. I also have a Thomas WILKIE, married to a Janet Lambert WHITE, who was baptized in Newburgh, on 30 Oct 1831. His children were born in Cupar and Monimail. In the main, most of my MELVILLE's and WILKIE's are well off the main trunk of my tree. Apologies for the lateness of the reply. Have been away on holiday. Thought this might be of some help to some of you Karen La Rocca ( Petrie) Dear Customer ********* New census records now available at ScotlandsPeople. ********* We are delighted to announce that in addition to the 1901, 1891, 1881 and 1871 census records, the indexes and images for the 1861 Census for Scotland are now available online at www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk. Although I receive details from the PETRIE-SCOTLAND-L@rootsweb.com regularly, I have not used the site for any queries. My current Petrie family history has been uploaded to www.familysearch.com and is on the Mormon Pedigree Resource file number 76. Although I gave information concerning the question below on my Pedigree Resource file, another member has raised doubts concerning whether I am correct in my assumptions. My query is - does anyone know any details concerning the ancestors of John Petrie, who was born/baptised in Wester Connonsyth, Carmyllie, Forfar, Scotland on 6 February 1722 and who married Helen Duncan in Kirkden, Forfar, Scotland on 28 October 1748? harold_petrie@hotmail.com
Thank you Murray I think he has got to be my 'boy', as he appears to be the only John of the right age and birth place in the 1851 census. I do have WILKIE and MELVILLE in my tree.
