    3. I have posted before about John H. Peters without connecting. I may have some additional information, so I thought I would try again. My mother is a Peters, so my Peters line is one of the main ones I am researching. John H. Peters, b. 8 Oct 1843 in Knox County, TN, m. Hulda Cross 24 Aug 1865 in Anderson County, TN, d. 8 Mar 1890 was my gg grandfather and has been a brick wall. In retrospect, my brick wall may have been primarily a thick skull on my part. My Peters roots are deep in Anderson County, TN (everybody from John H. Peters to my mother's generation lived in Anderson County, plus the ancestors of Hulda Cross lived in Anderson County), and I just didn't look anywhere else. I only just discovered that John H. Peters himself was born in Knox County instead of Anderson County. But I believe I have found additional information by looking in other counties. None of this is proven yet, but I wonder if anybody could confirm it or if it hooks up with anybody. >From the 1850 Knox County, TN census I have the following: Peters, John N. 28, Ruby 34, Washington B. 8, William E. 6, John H. 6, James F. 4, Mary J. 4, TN TN, Knox County-1731-428. >From the 1860 Roane County, TN census I have the following: John W. Peters 38, Reuby 41, Washington B. 17, Joh H. & Wm. E. 16 (twins), James F. & Mary J. 14 (twins), Charles W. 10, Thomas J. 8, Martha A. 7, Sarah E. 5, Amanda B 8/12. Ro-91-147. I believe that the "N" of John N. Peters in the 1850 census is a transcription error and that John W. Peters is the father of my John H. Peters. I have the following relevant Anderson County marriages: John W. Peters to Ruby Smith, June 23, 1840 by Henry Chiles, J.P., June 26, 1840. John W. Peters to Catherine Lea, Jun 26, 1841, by John Kay, J.P., Jun 26, 1841 When I first saw these two marriages, I wondered if it was the same John W. Peters who married first Ruby Smith and married second Catherine Lea. But the census data would suggest that John W. Peters was still married to Ruby Smith in 1850 and 1860. Also, I have not been able to find any other data whatsoever on John W. Peters and Catherine Lea, so I simply don't know how these two people fit into the big picture. I am provisionally assuming that John W. Peters and Ruby Smith are the parents of my John H. Peters, and am seeking further confirmation. I am also seeking the parents of John W. Peters. I have a suspicion that it might be Tobias Peters and Elizabeth Rachel Scarborough. Tobias has a son Tobias who married Louisa Henderson and a grandson Tobias through his son James Peters. I have found court records for the elder Tobias Peters in Anderson County as far back as 1810. Does any of this hook up with anybody? Can anybody confirm that John W. Peters is the father of my John H.? Does anybody know who the "other" John W. Peters is, the one who married Catherine Lea? Does anybody know if Tobias Peters is the father of John W. Peters? Thanks in advance. Jerry Bryan ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com
