Peters, 79, of Route 2, passed away Sunday (Dec. 5, 1999) at Holston Valley Medical Center in Kingsport after a lengthy illness. Born in Scott County on August 20, 1920, he was the son of the late Walter and Elizabeth Stallard Peters. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Jewell Welch Peters; one sister, Juanita Cox; and one brother, Clytis Peters. Surviving are his daughter and son-in-law, Vicki and Bob Powell, Kingsport; son and daughter-in-law, Glen and Jane Peters, Nickelsville, Va.; grandsons, Michael and David Peters; three sisters, Venice Phillips and Patty McMann, both of Pennsylvania, Betty Hawkins, Indiana; two brothers, Joe Peters, Allentown, Penn. and Leland Peters, Parksburg, Penn.; several nieces and nephews. Burial is at Point Truth Cemetery in the Long Hollow section of Nickelsville.
