J. 9 > Peters, Anna L. 21 > , Sallie 84 > > Your census entry is from Anderson County, TN, 1870. I really can't help with the children (sorry), but I can help with the rest of the family. John W. Scarbrough was b. 9 Dec 1825, m. 24 May 1849 in Anderson County, TN, d. 4 Jan 1919 in Anderson County, TN, buried Scarbrough Cemetery, Anderson County, TN. He was the son of James Scarbrough and Annie Rice. Mary A. Peters was b. 3 May 1824, m. 24 May 1849 in Anderson County, TN, d. 18 Jun 1911 in Anderson County, TN, buried Scarbrough Cemetery, Anderson County, TN. She was the daughter of Thomas Peters, and Sarah B. (Jenny) England. Sallie age 84 was Mary's mother Sarah B.(Jenny) England, b. 3 May 1790 in Montgomery County, VA, m. Oct 1812 (probably in Anderson County, TN), d. 1886, buried Scarbrough Cemetery, Anderson County, TN. Anna L. Peters was the daughter of Henry Clark (Clark) Peters and Perlina/Polina A. Shilling. I have Henry Clark (Clark) Peters listed as the first cousin of Mary A. Peters, with Henry Clark (Clark) Peters as the son of Henry Peters, Jr. and Mary A. Peters as the daughter of Thomas Peters. However, some researchers have Henry Clark (Clark) Peters as the son of Thomas Peters. That would make Clark and Mary brother and sister instead of first cousins. I believe the first cousin scenario is more likely, but I am reserving judgement pending more research. If anybody has evidence (or just good opinions) one way or the other on this point, please post it to the list. Note that either way, Anna L. Peters was the granddaughter of Sarah England Peters with whom she was also living. You have probably already checked on this, but your Sarah A.J. Scarbrough was not enumerated with the family in the 1880 census. I have an Anderson County marriage for Sarah J. Scarbraugh (sic) to Thomas Huckabey 16 May 1873, probably too young to be your Sarah A.J. Scarbrough and the given name is a shot in the dark, although I do have a g grandmother in Sevier County who was married when she was 12 years old. I have an Anderson County marriage for A.V. Scarbrough to John Miller 5 Feb 1874, again probably too young and the given name is a shot in the dark. I have an Anderson County marriage for S.A. Scarbrough (female) to M.L. Johnson 8 Jan 1882, this time the age is a little more reasonable but the given name is still a bit of a shot in the dark. If this is the one, you have to explain why she was not enumerated with the family in the 1880 census since the marriage was in 1882.
