    1. English or Dutch lineage?

    3. I'm sure I have passed this on to some of you... from David Holman David@holman.globainet.co.uk "I think you may find the Thomas Dunwood PETERS was in fact Thomas Dykewood PETER. He was a Dutch immigrant from Antwerp who purchased land that was formerly owned by the PETER family of Fowey. His original surname was Dykewood and he took the English name PETER as his surname when he arrived. Thomas married Martha Treffry of Place, Fowey and had, as far as I can tell, three children, a daughter in 1595, son Thomas 1596 and Hugh 1598. Hugh emigrated to New England in 1635 with a party in the ships Abigail and Defence. He was involved in the founding of a small port called Foy (Marblehead). This was named Foy after Fowey in Cornwall....Hugh was granted land and later ordained minister of the First Church of Salem .....returned to England and was executed in the Tower of London on 16 Oct 1660. Thomas was a minister in Mylor who took leave from his parish and became Minister at Saybrook Fort in 1643, later returned to Mylor in 1647...died 1654. I have no details on a brother Ezra and would be interested to know anything you have." As no one can document Ezra Peters or for that matter, Zachariah (not the one from Franklin co.), I look forward to the material offered by Miriam. Barbara Lake Peters

    3. Thanks Barbara. "Zachariah Peters " has been proven to be Zachariah Parker of Conn. Several years ago the DAR stopped accepting the Zachariah Peters lineage. Ehn I first began my research an uncle handed me a memeographed sheaf of papers re Tunis, saying "I don't think it is right before Tunis". I could not document any of the statements. My husband and I even drove to Petersburg, VA only to find it was not founded by a Peters. The material I am enclosed with the book copy is approx 50 pages of citations on the German and Dutch heretage and all documentation records and researchers. ----- Original Message ----- From: Barbara Lake Peters <barmusic@erols.com> To: <PETERS-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, April 05, 2000 2:14 PM Subject: English or Dutch lineage? > I'm sure I have passed this on to some of you... > from David Holman David@holman.globainet.co.uk > "I think you may find the Thomas Dunwood PETERS was in fact Thomas Dykewood PETER.
