Hi Alan, I don't have any direct information on your lines, but in case it might help, I thought I'd give you a little background on the names, possibly offering a few clues to their origins. Antje is a Dutch name, making this line of Peters also most likely Dutch and pronounced "Pay-ters", or possibly they changed the spelling from Pieters, which would be pronounced "Pee-ters" in Dutch. The "-tje" ending of Antje is used quite often with children's names, similarly to a -y ending in English, such as Becky, Kenny, Larry, Johny, Jimmy, etc. and has a connotation of "cute-little". Her actual given name could possibly have been Annike or something similar. Meester is also a Dutch word, literally translated as "Master", usually used to mean a male school teacher. Ken, Thanks for the low down on the name. I don't know the exact origin of the Peters surname. I know Antje's father is from Germany, most likely the Ostfriesen area as my other family members are. I don't if or when the name became americanized or the name it might have been before immigrating to America. The Meester name is all new to me. Appreciate all the help. Thanks for the translation. alan :) >Hi Alan, > >I don't have any direct information on your lines, but in case it might >help, I thought I'd give you a little background on the names, possibly >offering a few clues to their origins. > >Antje is a Dutch name, making this line of Peters also most likely Dutch and >pronounced "Pay-ters", or possibly they changed the spelling from Pieters, >which would be pronounced "Pee-ters" in Dutch.
